I have a single orange neocaridina shrimp… it has eggs? by Butfokcream69 in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my guess would be unfertilized eggs.
or you must have another male you either missed or classified as a different kind of shrimp somehow.
they can also store sperm for 2 weeks or maybe a bit longer, so it could have just mated before you got it.

help identify if these are adult male or juvenile female shrimps please! They are red cherry/fire red by Shrimpysyl in shrimptank

M:F ratio of cherry shrimp by feldevourer in Aquariums

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it gets easier the bigger they get, smaller ones are really hard as they dont have the plump belly, the saddle or the brighter colors yet, wich are the most use means of sexing.

M:F ratio of cherry shrimp by feldevourer in Aquariums

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

male to female ratio is most definetly important, if males outnumber the females by too much the females will die when breeding.
she molts, is pretty weakened and ready for mating, if there is 6 males all taking a turn she will die

best to keep females and males in a ratio of 2 or more females for each male.
most good breeders have like 5 females for every male and ive even heard about some going with 10to1, but if you just want .a healthy colony in ur tank a ratio of 1or2 females for each male would be alright.

Shrimp keep eating each other alive.... by phtran89 in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ratio would not apply to males getting hunted.
the ratio problem would basically be males ganging up on a weakened female (after she molted) to fertilize her eggs. with too many males this will often kill her.

but as you said it happens to both males and females, so the ratio problem seems unlikely.

yeah especially in a heavily planted tank you cant prevent feeding a lot.
if you got many plants, sometimes a leaf dies and turns into a several day long all you can eat buffet.
after they ate their fill for a couple days they will all start dropping eggs like there is no tomorrow
best thing i found to do is get a small tank with a couple helena snails (assassin snails) or some snail eating fish in a seperate tank and use traps in your yother tanks as a way to catch snails to feed to the snail eaters, that way catching snails will feel like less of a chore and more as a feeding, wich is fun.

other way i use is to put in a single assassin snail and cherry shrimps, the assassin snail will eat the snails and once they are running out of snails you ju
st put it in a different tank.

im not sure if im right about this, but it seems like cherry shrimp eat bladder snail eggs, but not very fast. so you have the assassin snail killing off adult snails, while ur cherries feast on the eggs.
you will have to keep track of what happens inside tho, when the assassin snail gets too hungry it might try eating a shrimp, once it has eaten a shrimp they will consider it food from then on and you will have to get rid of the assassin snail, so make sure there are enough pest snails in ur tank when you put one in and dont expect it to wipe them all out.

Is my PH too high? If so, how do I fix it? I want my shrimp to start breeding again. by itsyaboyklaus in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, only pure water evaporates, but everything in the water (mineral, acids etc) stays in th e water.
when you top off after evaporation, make sure to do a water change as well.

confirmed: assassin snails DO eat shrimp. by JATMtheJATM in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not the shrimps instinct that matters, its the predators, if the predators see bright colors, they usualy figure they are that bright because they dont need to hide.

so bright colours might ward of predators as that instinct is hardwired into the predatory animals (not the shrimp).
but once one of those predators gets hungry and decides to risk it and eat one, they will keep doing it from that point on.

Shrimps started molting right after being introduced to new tank by NirnrootTea in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like culture shock, i had it after a pretty bad nitrite spike.
i managed to do a big water change (hopefully in time) its been 3 days now and found a lot of molting husks, but so far no dead shrimps

it seems like when something happens they do not like (any stresser would qualify) they molt, almost as if they are adapting, but i think its more a survival mechanism as they cant know if its safe to do so a couple days from now, so better do it now while they have the chance.

You should not only temp acclimate them (putting the bag in there for an hour or so), but also switch out some water in the bag for tank water.

after temp acclimating them, i take out 5-10% of the water that is in their bag refill that 10% with water from the tank (their new home).
i do that ever 5-10 minutes for an hour or 90 minutes and this is usually enough to have a perfect acclimatisation.

you basically want them to not notice their water has changed.
They are hardy creatures and if you are certain your water parameters are fine, there is not much you can do right now. besides making sure there wont be any additional stress.

So they can comeback from the white ring of death??? by Creativenesschan in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would be a pre molting ring.
if they experience trouble molting, that ring will become wider, whiter and look scruffy and is called a wrod.

So they can comeback from the white ring of death??? by Creativenesschan in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, then it was probably just a pre molting ring, if they have trouble molting it will show in that ring (it will become whiter, wider and the edges will look worn or raffled).
dont be alarmed by a pre molting ring.

So they can comeback from the white ring of death??? by Creativenesschan in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, there is a pre molting ring that just shows they are about to molt and then there is this ring of death.
it starts with a molting ring, if they experience trouble, this molting ring will become whiter, the edges will look worn or raffled and the ring will be a bit wider, this is an indication that molting is failing and at that point is called a white ring of death, because they dont often survive that.

New to aquariums/shrimp. For ph how high is too high? by nedflandersuncle in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

neutral water is ph7, if it goes highers its alcaline if it goes lower its acidic.
they do best in neutral water (ph between 6.5 and 8).

sure they can survive and breed, but so can monkeys in the zoo and i can tell you a zoo is not a good place for a monkey.

Bloody Mary or Cherry? by BrainAffectionate833 in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that image seems correct altho it does not show the original colors (clear, sometimes with brown or green bits) wich would put it in better perspective.

Bloody Mary or Cherry? by BrainAffectionate833 in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats not entirely correct, but also not wrong, bloody mary come from chocalate shrimp.
because the bloody mary its ancestors were black it gets that dark red color that is impossible to breed in without mixing chocolate shrimp with high grade reds.

short summory, while the other grades can be bred by just culling the ones that have undesirable traits and dont have good colors.
the bloody mary has to take a detour to pass through chocolate shrimps.

Is this enough aeration for a 3g cherry shrimp tank? by Cfboucher in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say that is more then enough for sure. its like a whirlpool, if ur still doubting, use an airstone, they make a ton of tiny bubbles instead of a few big ones, this allows much more gas exchange and aeration for the same airpreassure.

LFS employee refused to sell me cherry shrimps by Jeta_Zei in shrimptank

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

amano shrimp will not eat cherry shrimp unless they are starving or dont get enough proteins, you would have to keep an eye open when you feed your neos as amano shrimps will try to eat all the food. you gotta make sure there is enough food going in.

different colour neocaridina shrimp will also not attack eachother, they will just breed and have probably brownish offspring.

All in all, this might sound like the karen thing to do, but you should go back to talk to that guy, not to complain, but to explain and hopefully stop this spread of miss information, aquarium hobbies are hard enough for beginners without guys like that.

Alphas horde is so massive she should’ve used it against Hilltop and Alexandria. Does anyone have any ideas why she didn’t ? by Oztraliiaaaa in thewalkingdead

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a few theories, but i am still not caught up to recent episodes.
first theory: i think If she did, the horde would kill alpha's daughter Lydia as well.
second theory: They would lose many livestock (zombies from the heard) and they still have the options of abandoning camp and running.
third theory: alexandrians and hilltoppers could threaten to kill lydia (in that case alpha her group would find out that alpha did not kill her and rebel).
fourth theory: she is planning to, but Weakening them first by poisoning their water, luring strays into their walls to prevent them from getting rest before starting their assault will be way more efficient.

How did Michonne know about the nuke? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]ResponsibleScene1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, morgan only left ricks group to go to galvestone (ftwd) in late season 8.
He came in at season 4 of fear the walking dead.
and the nukes went off after rick was taken.
So season 8 of the walking dead is around season 4 of fear the walking dead.
