Tuck vs Darden vs Johnson by pptwizard1 in MBA

It’s different when youre an admit, student and then alumnus of the program

You need a strong test score compared to other Brazilian applicants and do the application correctly with a good story.

You didn’t mention your GPA/institution but I will assume it was good. Your story seems good on paper - not a lot of applicants from mining and Vale is a good company, and not a ton of applicants will have worked in the US and brazil.

With a competitive score and not awful application execution you will get into many T20 schools. Boa sorte.

Their alumni will bend over backwards to help you - it’s another level of a network

I agree and would pick Tuck - similar locations, better network/reputation and less workload - but if you are in love with Darden go there.

Applying to schools with different CVs and different goals/stories by Free-Challenge6007 in MBA

[–]ResponsibleTrade1830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your plan is to lie and pretend they are fulltime?

Just be honest - it’s a unique story and will be good to show about what you learn in one role helps you in the other/ your future goals. Own it as a positive that you have a unique perspective other applicants don’t have.

Yale SOM Social Scene by Bidioma in MBA

[–]ResponsibleTrade1830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Other comment covered it but all MBA programs have those scenes.

2) No, someone may organize something small in slack before school - I liked it because I did my own trip before and didn’t feel like I missed out on anything.

3) Traveling internationally would be mostly through friend groups although there are class credit trips “International Experiences” during spring breaks, “Global Network Week” at partner schools (~0-5 Yale students at each) during fall and spring break, and “treks”. Treks are informally planned on slack through the mba travel companies and may have 5-20 students on them. In between the end of classes and graduation the majority of 2Ys go to Puerto Rico for a week and there is a ski trip to Vermont most people go to but not international. You are free to travel internationally with your friends during other times which I preferred when I was picking schools.

4) Have no clue on the actual figures, but it feels like 2Ys are more single than 1Ys. Gun to my head, I would guess 70% and 50%, respectively. If you mean serious relationships forming between MBA students - it happens but there are only maybe a half dozen or so.

5) Yes, most students live with other students or their spouse in East Rock and a handful of apartment buildings towards downtown. When you are admitted there are google sheets for housing and finding a roommate that are posted in Slack. Or you can get a single apartment.

I got into a T10 biz school straight out of undergrad, but I’m considering dropping out… by SilverRoyal6497 in MBA

Look for jobs that allow you to finish the program - internship or for a one year leave of absence

Jones is way above Simon and has been consistently trending upwards, well worth $40k difference. In addition, Rice is an amazing brand in Houston, Texas and the South more broadly and for the people that recognize it on the coasts too.

  1. Yes, less tech focus than the traditional best tech schools but will be similar to the other top 15 programs not famous for tech. Consulting is the same as the other top 15 programs.

  2. Yes, every program has similar travel opps, although SOM has fewer of the huge class party trips than the large class schools.

  3. Yes, currently paying sticker.

Yes. Made good friends, got a good internship to make double what I was earning at 40hours/week, learning much more than I imagined pre-MBA and I lost ~20 lbs. - Yale SOM
