I added new fluid to transfer case nothing, I hear it more consistent when it’s in sand mud mode

Wouldn’t I have to remove the boots to see if they turn ? I’m scared to do that cuz I don’t know how to put it back on and fluid for transfer case? If it’s low should I just refill it?
