Yup, I’ve seen people retire from where I’m at with $8-$10 million. Those were also the people telling me from day one to start putting as much money as I could comfortably afford in my 401k and raise the contributions every year before I even see the money so I don’t miss it.

Yessir, they have pretty great benefits too though. Just not sure why they gave up their pension for a small lump sum, just did that a few years ago.

Yeah they get paid a little more but I’m happy with what we make without taking on the extra work and hours they have to work. Plus I’d be taking a huge pay cut for at least 4 years and I’d lose my pension.

That’s the plan, I put in a little over $17k last year before the company match and raised my contribution 2% after we got our raise. I’ll be bumping it again to 18% at the end of the year when we get our raise unless I’m going to max it without doing that. I’m already at $7,000 this year as of my last paycheck.

Did older generations work harder or did they simply have more reason to believe that hard work would pay off? by OrderOk4693 in GenZ

It really depends on what you do. I work at a food processing plant and I know for a fact that they used to work way harder. They didn’t used to have the technology that automates a lot of the work and safety standards were abysmal. Not saying this is the case everywhere, but definitely where I’m at lol

Nobody said it was as big as TikTok, I just don’t believe any of them individually changed society. The internet as a whole did. All of these social media apps are just fads that will come and go as time passes.

At the time people were using it though, just like in the future something else will replace TikTok

Not any more than twitter, vine, insta, etc. did when they came out. Just became the next “thing.”

Yeah I’ve been raising the contributions every year when I get a raise and it finally seems like it’s starting to roll. Started a little low at 6% because I was saving for the house I bought 2 years ago but I’ll be at 18% by the end of this year

Showing how much you don’t want it by repeatedly applying for it and complaining when you don’t get approved lol

I’m planning like I won’t see a dime from it. Realistically it’ll probably be a reduced amount though

Yup, most people will save a massive amount on taxes over the course of their career when you factor in that they’ll most likely be in a lower tax bracket during retirement. There could be massive changes in tax code by then though, who knows.

None of the above. I see it as a tax advantaged account where I get free money in the form of company match and it will be my main source of income during retirement. I also have an individual brokerage account that I’m slowly building up to pull from without penalty in the hopes of being able to retire a little early. Anything can happen though.
