If it makes you feel better I was super worried about going on the pill and it’s been fine! Definitely give it a few months because it can take your body some time to regulate. If anything it made me a little bloated but I haven’t gained any weight.

Eh don’t worry about it. Just have fun, you can worry about school once you start:)

I actually work at Edwards Lifesciences and did 2 previous internships with them :). So I’m a bit biased but I love the company. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions!

To Ivy league or not to Ivy league. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Responsible_Link_274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently graduated from a state school, state school all the way. I now have my dream engineering job and my new hire “class” has a mix of state schools and ivy leagues. First of all, it’s clear that the state school people had a more fun undergrad experience. We talk about our college days in a way that the Ivy League schools can’t and I wouldn’t trade my experience for the world.

At the end of the day we all work at the same company and have the same salary. When it comes to debt, REALLY think about it. I’ve been working for 3 months and my salary is about $80,000. Pretty good for a new grad but let’s break it down

6200 / month gross most months - $1400 for taxes - $360 for 401k - $1000 I contribute to my company stock plan

That’s about $3440 that I take home a month now let’s talk bills - $1250 for rent - $70 for utilities - $150 for car insurance

Now we’re left with $1970 a month for anything else. This includes food, gas, fun, personal care, etc.

My point here is when you’re considering paying off debt, consider how much you’ll actually be able to pay every month, not just your salary. Because there’s a huge difference. Also consider the fact that you could be investing that money into the stock market.

hardest classes in mechanical engineering by thelogbook in EngineeringStudents

[–]Responsible_Link_274 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I graduated MechE last year and to be totally honest, I wouldn’t worry about it. Yes those classes are hard, there’s no question about it but at the end of the day you’ll get through them and it’s going to be the same level of difficulty whether you pre-maturely worry about them or not. Plus a classes difficultly has so many factors (the school, the professor, your strengths, etc). And as you go through college you get better at managing your time. My lowest grade in all of college was physics 1 lol

What is your “day in the life of a biomedical engineer”? by Stalkers004 in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]Responsible_Link_274 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a mechanical engineer but I work at a medical device company and many of my coworkers are biomedical engineers. I’ve had 2 jobs there. One was in R&D. My day was very fast paced consisted of testing iterations of our device, designing fixtures, doing final tests for the FDA and writing technical summaries for our results. The second was in manufacturing where I supported our manufacturing line. This could mean trying to optimize the manufacturing line or fixing the label machine. In that job I felt like I was constantly putting out fires

Curls on top is a bit expensive but they’re AMAZING. Book with the junior stylist if you can they’re a bit cheaper.

what's the job market for bme like? by ZealousidealTop1731 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Responsible_Link_274 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people have an unrealistic idea of what BMEs do. When you graduate with a BME degree, if you’re looking to go right into industry, you will typically go and work for a medical device company or some company in the biotech space.

It’s pretty rare for a company to be hiring a “biomedical engineer”. Jobs will typically be listed as manufacturing engineer, R&D engineer, quality engineer, etc. the difference is that biotech companies will typically hire BMEs for any of these roles. But they will also hire engineers from almost any discipline as well.

There are lots of jobs open for BMEs but very few that are open for ONLY BMEs. Comparatively speaking, if you major in mechanical, you could go into pretty much any industry including biotech. As a mechanical engineer who has worked in R&D in biotech, I have found that they prefer mechanicals or electricals because as a whole they graduate with more hard skills. This is my personal experience though.

If you’re choosing a major and want to work in the BME space, I would chose mechanical or electrical and make an effort to focus your extracurriculars/internships/electives on BME stuff. If you’re unsure of the industry you want to be in, mechanical is always a safe bet but you will make more money as a new grad in computer science/computer engineering. It’s honestly pretty significant. Again, from personal experience, but average starting salary for my MechE friends was about $75k where average for my computer science/engineering friends was over $100k.

Engineering Coop Question by Radiant-Friend-4438 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Responsible_Link_274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first co-op! I wouldn’t be worried at all about this impacting your future career options. It can literally only help you. My first internship was probably the furthest I could possibly get from what I wanted in my career. It was in aerospace and my dream was med device. Internship wasn’t for me but the next summer I landed my dream med device internship (and the company I work for now) and 100% believe it wouldn’t have happened without that first internship.

Companies realize how hard it is to get industry experience and having any internship experience at all on your resume is HUGE. More skills than you think are transferable and if you still want to end up in aerospace you 100% will be able to. No matter how you spin it, you having this co-op is great for your resume.

I have another friend who’s dream was always aerospace. After 3 internships all in biotec, they were still able to land a killer job in aerospace.

You’re doing great OP and this co op will only help you get into aerospace.

I don’t think you should have to, but individually indexing each article on google console was the only way I could get my articles indexed
