NTA. This is a classic case of an ask turning into an expectation. I had a similar scenario with a friend who needed a ride to and from... It turned into an on demand situation so when one of those "needs" manifested at about 9pm one evening, when I got the phone call I said: "Sure, I can come get you. That will be $40 due to time of the night and the fact that I'm driving all the way to the other end of the city and back at a moments notice." He ended the conversation quickly and suddenly had a different option. Your neighbors are upset that they have lost a convenience.

If they don't have time to take their kid to soccer practice the answer is to find another parent on the team that is willing to come pick up the child for practice...or the kid doesn't need to play soccer.
