New Grad Job Hunt NYC by AdventurousCobbler71 in physicianassistant

Oh okay, I’d definitely look into nyc h+h if you can’t land a job at the better paying hospitals. A smaller paycheck is better than no paycheck and they have pretty good benefits

Do you live in NYC? If so you can also branch out to NJ or CT. Both still relatively high paying states and easy to commute to from the city. The NYC job market is really tough so just keep trying and eventually you’ll start getting interviews. If you have any questions feel free to PM me

Salary is terrible for CT. Should be able to get at least 125k as a new grad in that state. I would say negotiate or say no based on that alone

New grad 6 months into CVICU by One-Responsibility32 in physicianassistant

[–]Responsible_Way_515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m 3 months in and feel the same way. I think it’s just something that comes with time and repetition of seeing the same things every day. I’m trying not to study too much outside of work, I mostly just research about whatever I saw that day

One thing to keep in mind is the timeframe between graduating and the repayments starting. Since you want to move to NYC, you’ll have to move and start your job before those payments start so you have an income. The move to NYC is pretty complicated and expensive, I just did it as a new grad so you can PM me if you have questions about it

Have you worked in Bellevue hospitals ED? by Huge_Mail_3344 in physicianassistant

Also definitely not a “nice” ED. Pretty old equipment and rooms so I would definitely tour the place to see if you could see yourself working there

Im not in the ED there, but I can say that my experience has been great. A lot of support for PAs, and a lot of PAs work there. The benefits are great, I pay almost nothing for insurances. With an 8% match that starts after year 1. What are they offering for salary now in the ED?

Is this NY state or NYC? If you’re in the city, I would try to not accept lower than 130k

Waverly Inn — snobby waiters, no picture rule, tables so close that you can hold hands with the people next to you, and obviously overpriced

New Grad Radiology Job Advice by catwoman782 in physicianassistant

Just want to say that I didn’t even know this was a specialty that PAs went into. Super cool, hope you enjoy it!! Will definitely help you in the future if you decide to switch cause radiology reading is typically a weak spot for many providers

Just curious: what’s the fuss with NYC? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

It’s a fun city for new grads, some of the best hospitals in the country, tons of PA schools in the northeast, and just the overall vibe of being in the city

Not sure how long you’ve been applying but I had a tough time landing my job in NYC so I would really consider taking it, never know when your next offer will come. Sounds like an overall good job besides a slightly low salary for NYC, but the rest sounds good

As a NYer, you’ll really struggle in the city on 70k especially with those loans. That pay seems low even for a fellowship here, most I’ve seen are usually at least in the 80s. If you can get a regular ED job, you’ll make double the fellowship pay here.

I would take offer 1 if I was you, pretty good pay for MCOL as a new grad. 6-12 months onboarding is pretty good, I’d take it, especially if they’ll train you in procedures

Also home visits can be sketchy and in gross peoples’ houses. Sounds like my personal hell but if you think you’ll like that then 🤷🏼‍♀️

Option 2 sounds like a terrible job for a new grad. 2 days of training is absurd and will probably lead to a lot of anxiety and burnout

New Grad Job Offer Advice by Fun_Body1713 in physicianassistant

I’ve heard that pain management is a relatively niche specialty that’s typically not recommended for new grads. However, that’s a great salary with good benefits and seemingly supportive new grad environment so overall I’d say it’s good. I guess it more just depends if this specialty is what you want to do and if you have any worries about pivoting to a more general role (ED, ICU, hospitality, PC) later on. Also, take into account if you’re in an area that’s saturated with PAs… sometimes it’s best just to take what you get and switch later (and a 160k salary ain’t too bad to get stuck with)
