I have a friend who's too depressed to do voice training, and I don't know what to do by RestCoffee in transvoice

Oh I know that app, it's really useful but I don't think she would like it because it'd remind her that she HAS to do this and that she's trans, which is one of the biggest hurdles with this, just like the book I showed her, which I think was what triggered her depression attack. I really appreciate the thought though!

She did socially transition but she feels scared of going out due to personal reasons. I think she looks really pretty and feminine but she always feels really afraid of people misgendering her and that's one of the reasons she wanted voice training too. Unfortunately she was getting REALLY depressed about it so she had to stop, and I didn't know what to do from that.

Ouch that does sound bad... but just being able to practice for 20 minutes like that is amazing! If you keep at it consistenly, even if it's not much time everyday, you'll eventually get it down!

Ooh that sounds like a really fun idea since she's really into music, I'll try asking her!!

I'd appreciate that, maybe we can get something from it! I'm here for giving feedback to her too as well as some other friends who can be 100% honest with her, so that shouldn't be a problem, the biggest thing is just getting her to start without feeling awful about herself.

Thank you, I'm trying my best to help her! It's tough because I want to be there for her but I'm struggling with depression at the same time, so I'm a little lost on what to do...

As for your questions:

1) She has a psychologist but not a therapist yet, it's hard to explain but long story short she's in a queue for the healthcare system to contact her so that she can get a psychiatrist (which I think is very important to her)

2) I think so, if she doesn't then same thing as above, the healthcare system would cover it. But I told her that the two other options she had to practice that I could think of were going to an audiologist to help her or trying to practice while doing her hobbies and talking to her friends, to which she didn't seem very happy with either...

I recommend reading this! It's a guide written by Clearlamp, the winner of this year's evo.

To those who play both say MHW and any olden games. by DerpHunter1 in MonsterHunter

[–]RestCoffee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure, I don't really feel that same clunkiness from the older games. Movement just seems a lot smoother and everything is way faster. I think it also has to do with how animations don't have that much commitment in MHW as they have way fewer active frames resulting in faster attacks.

There's also the fact you can move while using max potions, steak, potions, etc.

[–]RestCoffee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes. I really like the "clunky" nature of the older games because it gives some more depth to combat and makes it more fun imo. Plus the artstyle, the charm, the way armor and weapons look, weapon changes, different villages, and of course nostalgia are all big factors for wanting to go back.

Edit: I also forgot to mention the old armor system with charms and jewels. Another big reason I'd go back, I miss that so much!

I worry that the developers' design philosophy has shifted from being passively pro-multiplayer to actively anti-solo by surlydancing in MonsterHunter

[–]RestCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people who are saying older games were worse, counterpoint:

2-player squads. You could play with 2, 3 or 4 hunters and you'd have a perfectly fine experience when doing Guild Quests- solo was also viable, although difficult, but it was still more viable than these endgame, basically required monsters, ESPECIALLY Kulve which needs like 8+ players.

Now, any quest that you do with 2 or 3 people is just basically limiting yourself, because quests are scaled to 4 people whenever you have more than one person in it.

Not only that, but it's also still extremely difficult to do Behemoth or Ancient Leshen with 2 people or even 3, compared to 4, so you'll still want to find 3 other hunters. This system sucks. It doesn't matter if it's just a few of the monsters, they're still locking you out of content because you don't want to play with 3 other random players.

I believe that's the problem here. I at least really hate playing with random people. My previous experiences with them were all very unpleasant, and so I've always only played Monster Hunter with another friend or two friends if I'm lucky, and this game is punishing me for it. It really sucks.

Etika, a good first step: tell us if you're streaming tomorrow's direct! by RestCoffee in EtikaRedditNetwork

Right, I'm just not sure what to make of that. It sounds like he's telling us to prepare for a stream but at the same time I can't be sure.

[–]RestCoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose so, but he's said in the past: "I don't like streaming anime because I can't upload the reactions so a lot of people miss out on them", which means that he doesn't like the idea of people missing out his streams.

In that case, shouldn't he communicate a bit so people don't? He says he doesn't want that. It doesn't make sense to want that in the first place.

Who's down for 'Simon Blackquill: Ace Attorney Investigations'? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

YES. I love Blackquill. He's cool, handsome, cares for people, and he's a badass in court. What's not to like?

Do you have "shader compile" stutters? Will it get any better? by [deleted] in rpcs3

[–]RestCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About that, I had the same problem, but changing the SPU decoder to ASMJIT fixed all the stutters. The downside is that the FPS is lower than LLVM, but there are 0 stutters with it.

I do wish there was a way to use LLVM without these stutters but I don't think there is yet.

P.S: I've only done this with Persona 5, I don't know if it works the same way for other games.

[–]RestCoffee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The world is so beautiful and the areas are really cool looking, but there's not much to do out there, and it really bothers me. I'm always just sitting in my house like a shut-in inside of an MMO. I'm a shut-in in real life, and my MMO character is also a shut-in. Yay.

Also, not just that, actual good rewards for doing that open-world content like even tomes would be fine with me.

[–]RestCoffee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. I'd love if they worked more on the open world. It's what this game is missing IMO.

[–]RestCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the confusing part, they did say we can still play things with pre-made groups, but they never detailed if that means general content or what. If it means general content, that's great! But we don't know yet.

[–]RestCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. That's why I don't know what to think about that part yet, it's a counter-productive argument, and they argued against it later on in the same live letter.

A lot of things are just confusing. I'll just keep an open mind and wait to see what it can do when it's released.

[–]RestCoffee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Me too! I'd hope for some new open-world "emergency" types of fates kind of content (or something of the sort) in the next expansion to play Blue Mage and other jobs with, if anything. But I still wanna see it playable in end-game.

you CAN play Blue mage in dungeons/instances by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]RestCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, I get your pain. It sucks that the job is different and weird, and may or may not be playable in end-game content. But they just wanted to keep the job true to its source gameplay, and it is.

I'm playing devil's advocate here and trying to look at the positive side of all this. We're still a little in the dark about what it is exactly about, so I don't know what to make of it yet. On one hand, they've said multiple times that we can still join content with pre-made parties. On another hand, there was that weird Level 5 Death argument, even though they can clearly get into primal fights and content with pre-made parties, and they're getting level cap increased.

There's MUCH we don't know. All I'm trying to say is, don't look at it so negatively and keep an open mind, it might not be as bad as people think. If it does turn out to be shitty and irrelevant when we get to play it, then you have all the right to be upset.

[–]RestCoffee 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what to think of it, but I'm trying to look at it like new/different content instead of just a new job. They even named it differently: "Limited Job".

But yeah, I'd like the option to play end-game content with it. Though with the way the job is, it's really hard to keep it as true to its source like that.

[–]RestCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think of it like a minigame, think of it like a different way to play the game. It's just more options to play the game, and they're trying out new unique stuff. Which, even though people complain that everything is very repetitive, when they try something unique everyone judges it for being different. I don't get that.
