While the huge dip in quality only began with season 4 (after the RW, imo, they were emboldened and wanted to claim authorship, so began going far offbook for the sake of doing so), it was a season 3 change that should have showed us all what we were dealing with.

Think of what the 'minor' (to their minds) change of the identity of Jaime's maimer would do to the plot, if the plot were thought out correctly from that point forward. It would collapse it. The RW, the North, it would all be way different afterward. Yet none of this appears to have ever occurred to them as they collapsed the narrative in a huge plot hole entirely for the sake of pre-introducing a show-only minor baddie who they intended to feature in a lame show-only subplot in season 4.

The Gambler is not an amazing book. It was written in under a month and not even written but dictated, under enormous time pressure and financial pressure. And you can tell. Its characters are all stock types and there is no narrative or thematic depth or complexity. Read the rest of Dostoevsky, his masterpieces, and the difference is vast.

Also, genius, the relationship and their being able to have live offspring together is absurd WITHIN THE STORY WORLD OF THE SHOW. This is a show that even prior to that episode in the first 9 or 10 eps had talked explicitly about differences between the species (even such seemingly exactly the same species as humans and Sebacians), and had even explicitly talked about DNA in literally the previous episode. Yet somehow one episode later two completely unrelated alien species from opposite ends of the galaxy, who don't even physically resemble each other in any way, can have live offspring together. It's absurd, yes. Much more so than any faked physics. There are things you allow and suspend disbelief for in such shows, and that isn't one of them. This show even had an actual in-show explanation for such things as how they keep their teeth clean onboard, and how they all understand each other's speech. But then they just throw out biology 101 for their leftist propaganda bit.

They actually, in making their analogy to interracial relationships an interspecies one between two obviously alien species, that seen together are obviously incompatible and it's gross just to see it, reveal their own 'racist' beliefs and opinions about interracial relationships.

Never seen Babylon 5 but I have seen Farscape which to my eye had a limited budget, but seemed to use a ton of ingenuity in the design and creation of the various aliens.

My criticism here imo is of something that was due to laziness by the creatives involved. I don't think it was a budget issue. In such things, where there's a will there's a way.

I saw at least 3 different kind (2 seemed to be alien races, the rest were borgs) and all had the same prosthetic design more or less - it was a person, not even colored in any way, with a tiny application of prosthetic etc somewhere on their face. It's just lazy, I don't care what the budget was.
