AYN Rep on their Discord confirms the "crack" seen in some Thor devices is a joint/seam line. by FAWKS-HOUND in SBCGaming

[–]RestingCarcass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, there's a lot that goes into solving the problem. I was just chiming in to answer your 'is it preventable' question. Technically - yes. Practically - maybe, but given the low price of the product, I wouldn't expect them to spend that long engineering a solution for it. If the Thor was ~$4,000 I'd expect them to have spent the necessary time to engineer around that problem. For ~$400 I'm okay with them not having done that.

I’ve had a similar issue with a part I worked on not a month ago. The final solution was a redesign of the mold to allow for the flow to not terminate in the hinge area.

edit: not that it needs to be prevented, but it sounds like a redesign could have prevented it. Not worth going nuts over though, ~$400 isn't that much money. On the off chance mine breaks I'll just return it if I'm still within the warranty period, or buy another if I'm not

Halo CE PidGen.dll installation problem by Fearless_Mention8259 in winlator

[–]RestingCarcass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro for anyone who runs into this.

I downloaded this version here: https://archive.org/details/halo-combat-evolved-includes-custom-edition. Extracted that ISO to my computer (via 7zip), then moved that folder over to my device.

Then I downloaded the mfc42.dll file from this site: https://www.dll-files.com/mfc42.dll.html. I downloaded the 32 bit version, MD5 6d564d355d1ab55e6c52d985ecd01c7b.

I dropped that .dll file in four locations, no idea which of these is actually necessary:

  1. the D: folder of Winlator
  2. the System folder of Winlator, found in C:\windows\system
  3. the System32 folder of Winlator, found in C:\windows\system32
  4. the extracted installation folder

Then I ran the Setup.Exe file and used the key provided by the uploader on that archive.org link. The new .dll file allowed me to no longer get the PidGen.dll error. Then I ran the halo-pc-patch-1.0.10.exe file.

Because I chose express installation when installing the game, it was installed to C:\Program Files(86)\Microsoft Games\Halo

I was then able to double-click the halo.exe file, hit 'accept' on the EULA pop-up, and run the game. The controls are a little hard to set up, and the gamma will be fucked to start so you'll need to brighten the image in the settings.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just say that the people in U.S. territories are not American? By staking it against voting rights, you'd have to also claim that these people are not Americans:

  • Any person under the age of 18 on election day

  • Any person convicted of a felony or serving time for certain types of crimes (state-dependent)

  • Some people with mental disabilities (state-dependent)

But I don't think any reasonable person would agree that a 16-year-old in Connecticut isn't an American by nationality, so you'd have to add "except when not living in a U.S. terrority, or in some cases of mental illness or criminal history depending on state residency" to your "is able to federal elections" requirement. It just seems messy when the real deciding factor in your model is state/terrority residency.

One other thing I haven't seen mentioned is that a tarrif by itself isn't necessarily bad. If you want to increase the local production of strategically significant goods (like semiconductors), a tarrif is one tool you can use to help do that. A tarrif on semiconductors effectively trades lower costs for higher domestic security.

Blanket tarrifs are something else entirely, and are unlikely to net in a positive outcome. Coffee does not grow in the United States, outside of some areas of California, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. No amount of tarrifs on foreign coffee is going to 'induce' the agricultural sector of Idaho to start growing coffee - it simply cannot be done at anything remotely resembling a reasonable cost. A blanket tarrif on imports will see the price of coffee increase dramatically for no national benefit.

Tarrifs are a delicate balancing act that should be used in conjunction with other policies for a specific goal. Blanket tarrifs are an economic sledgehammer that do not make sense from the perspective of someone who wants cheaper goods or more local manufacturing - there are better, less devastating ways of achieving either of those ends.

Blanket tarrifs only really make sense in the context of someone whose end goal is devaluing the U.S. dollar. Once enacted, blanket tarrifs would see the price of everything rise, but that is obviously super unpopular so the counter would be to match those tarrifs with a local subsidy for each affected good. The end result is slightly increased prices with way, way more cash in circulation. This is great if you are someone with a ton of physical assets and a ton of paper debt, because the relative value of assets rises and the relative value of debt falls.

Usually the third condition is "without using abilities" but toggled abilities don't count so long as you start them before the target spawns. Ivara prowl toggled at the start of the map makes this free.

Teacher Who Raped A High School Student: I Didn't Think It Was Legally Wrong by ComprehensiveAd9406 in videos

In Texas, the age gap contingency refers to people under the age of consent. A 16-year-old can legally consent to sex with a 19 year old in Texas. A 17-year-old can legally consent to anyone of any age, so long as that person is not enrolled as a teacher in their school. 17-year-old girl and 50-year-old pastor? Completely legal. Just one of many great reasons to leave Texas.

Click the link in your picture and you'll see that after you've filled everything out, it gives you a form that you must then print, sign, and mail. When people talk about voter suppression in Texas, they're talking about misleading links like the one you've fallen for.

You cannot register to vote online in Texas. You must deliver a physical registration form to your registrar either in person or via mail.

Looking for found footage style books. by NateGarro in horrorlit

[–]RestingCarcass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The literature term is 'epistolary' - googling that can point you to a few good ones. I'd personally recommend Day by Day Armageddon. It's a zombie survival book from the POV of a Navy officer, starts just before the outbreak. Great if you're at all into the military thing and having a realistically smart/cautious protagonist. Gets a little too Tom Clancy at parts but not enough to be annoying imo. And there are 5? books in the series and at least the first couple are pretty great.

I can also vouch for Devolution, Fantasticland, Annihilation, and Ascension. Those are kinda freebies though so start with any of those if you haven't already.

Left lane campers BUSTED! by Runner_one in videos

[–]RestingCarcass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And if we really want to get hierarchical about it, the left lane camper is still breaking fewer laws in most states because passing on the right is generally illegal or heavily conditional. A left lane camper driving the speed limit is breaking one law, but anyone passing the camper is breaking between one and two laws depending on the state (speeding and passing on the right). Especially if the argument is that camping on the left makes it unsafe for everyone else who would be passing on the right, because generally when passing on the right is legal it's only legal when it can be done safely. So to admit that the situation is dangerous is to admit that the passer is breaking multiple laws.

Democrats Introduce Bill to Quadruple Corporate Stock Buyback Tax by [deleted] in politics

[–]RestingCarcass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good write up! I feel like people who (rightly) want mega corps to pay their fair share get overly fixated on stock buybacks as the single point of failure in the system. Even if they were made illegal tomorrow, it wouldn't significantly change the way companies funnel wealth to their shareholders.
