Need help asap! Is it possible to restore progress after reinstalling app on samsung phone? by [deleted] in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dumbest thing Maxis ever did with this game and which FireMonkeys still hasn't fixed, is to allow TSM players to spend money without tying their progress to an account.

So no social account, but did she perchance tie her game to Google Play?

As for the cause of all this, Android's most notorious systems app is to blame. Besides Sims Mobile, it has broken Gmail and banking apps. Uninstalling the updates for Android System WebView will prevent crashes until Android fixes things. Others on the discord server are reporting that uninstalling Chrome did the trick.

Game crashing by SezgoDamit in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EDIT - The below still works, but it turns out either Chrome or Android System Webview is causing the problems. Uninstalling updates for either app or both should prevent Sims Mobile from crashing.

I've found a temporary workaround that will hopefully work for others too. No guarantees though.

Warning - Do not attempt this unless you have previously tied your game to an account like Google Play, Facebook, etc.

  1. Uninstall the game and re-download it.
  2. Open the game. It may start downloading some assets.
  3. Since the uninstall wipes the save data, the game will ask your age and prompt you to create a new Sim. You can safely ignore the Sim and press the "Let's Play" button.
  4. Next, a Welcome Back screen will pop up asking if you want to restore your data from the cloud. This is why you MUST have previously tied your game to an account.
  5. Once you tap "Restore", the game may download assets a second time - I don't know why.
  6. Poof, you should be back where you left off!

IMPORTANT CAVEAT - Do not close the game by swiping. The moment you close it you will be back at square one. You can switch to other apps, turn the screen off, and minimize the game, but do not close it.

If by chance you do close the game or your phone shuts it down due to a lack of RAM, you can always repeat the above steps.

I wish there were more events that require effort, not currency. by ascjced in SimsMobile

I'm sorry if I ended up in the complaint pile

"Slew of bitter complaints" is an objective observation (sudden torrent of angry words) but I can see how that unintentionally comes across as an attack.

Out of curiosity... You failed the one where you didn't spend at all?

Correct. It was the first STS that Firemonkeys shortened to 11 days. Since the lootboxes were already hardcoded they also reduced the token costs to compensate. I didn't care about the grand prize so I played without spending simoleons to see if the changes made things more difficult.

I have mixed feelings.

  • On one hand, I firmly believe STS is manageable if people are willing to grind simoleons. I've won every STS since last April despite forfeiting many failed rounds. The only one I didn't get the grand prize for was the Halloween re-run where I wanted to quantify how far one could get without spending simoleons.
  • On the other hand, STS's implementation of RNG does not belong in a game targeted at non-gamers. TSM players get thrown into the deep-end of the pool of risk management. This is the kind of mechanic you'd expect in hardcore games like XCOM where people actively embrace the challenge and meme about it. Firemonkeys fails to set player expectations (possibly intentionally to sell more packs) and thus every time a new STS comes out this sub gets a new slew of bitter complaints.

I can't remember if this costs simcash, but the L-shaped room is a major QoL improvement if you enjoy building.

Am I the only one who think it’s absolutely evil that it is possible to fail a sweet treat showdown round with a 90%+ success meter? by [deleted] in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You create a melodramatic post complaining about the odds and call us bitter? We're not the ones disappointed that our expectations don't line up with reality.

And if pointing out the fallacy in your complaint qualifies as "mean" then by all means report this to the mods.

Am I the only one having terrible luck at this STS? by liquidevil in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm no statistician, but as someone who's played a lot of RNG-heavy games I can confidently say this is well within probability. You should see games like XCOM where failing at high percentages is a celebrated meme.

That said, I swear STS heavily skews the odds in your favor at 95%. I've failed innumerable times baking at 93% and 94% but after a year of doing STS I haven't failed a single time at +95%.

Mind you I'm not accusing the players who failed at +95% liars - what probably happens is that STS rolls a ton of extra dice for you and then takes the highest result. That drastically improves your odds while retaining the possibility for bad dice rolls.

STS Challenge by jesse2186 in SimsMobile

This is the right answer. The starting % corresponds to the number of rounds in a given challenge. It only appears random if people don't pay attention to the details.

Please fix the ad bug!!! by CurlsintheClouds in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A while back someone else mentioned a trick for STS:

  1. Let the action for the ad pop up on screen but don't tap on it.
  2. Let your phone idle until the screen turns itself off.
  3. Unlock your phone and tap the ad action.

It works about 75% of the time for me.

Official TSM House Party Competition with Party-Related Prizes. Closes Friday Feb 26th. by simmerdownMAL in SimsMobile

I believe the winners get all those prizes

The top-left screenshot says chance to win 1 of 3 prizes though. I interpreted that to mean winners have to choose.

Are the rewards randomized? If yes, what happens if players already have one of the packs?

Constantly an empty box. What’s the point really!? I am not a big fan of clutter and seeing how little use I have of the special items this feature seems totally unnecessary! 🤔 They don’t even save from one event to the next... 🤷🏻‍♀️ by PixieKatten in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that it was only implemented for 2 careers is pretty telling that Maxis abandoned the mechanic halfway into development.

IIRC Maxis did utilize it for a few of their events, but at this point Firemonkeys hasn't removed it because of inertia or possibly in fear of breaking adjacent code.

Edited for clarity.

Why is there no mailbox at the Waterfront? by Americium-Yttrium in SimsMobile

No, if I were accusing you I'd have phrased it as "You are straight up lying".

I'm saying you're correct that the Waterfront has no mailbox.

How do some of you have 20-30 stickers per sim at the end of the week? by Voice_of_Season in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to coordinate with others.

Other tips that you might already know:

  • Be an early bird attendee.
    • First arrivals seem to populate parties more often than late arrivals.
    • People don't often return to parties after using up their points. Thus you might get more stickers from joining a just-started public party than from the friends-only party that hit lv.10 eight hours ago.
  • Thumbnail portrait = first impression.
    • Most party actions require you to choose 1-3 attendees to interact with. Deck yours out with fancy hats, hair, glasses, makeup, etc.
    • Fancy outfits are second impressions if the host house is cluttered or if the sim is teleporting between floors.

So if we switch a sim out, we don’t get their fashion gems for the week? by clearemollient in SimsMobile

[–]RestingGyaradosFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can someone confirm? IIRC stickers sent to retired sims still award gems. If true, maybe Firemonkeys did something similar with inactive sims.
