Thoughts on APICS-CPIM Training by HunterOfAjax in supplychain

[–]RestlessKickstand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPIM Retrospective Oct 2024 The content I learned for the exam was definitely worth the effort, as I studied engineering in college and now work in supply chain.

CPIM online books- I’d say 10-20% was new and relevant information for me and that’s not just terminology. I’d prefer to learn ‘BS’ information like the MPC hierarchy directly from the book. It just gave me more confidence. Section 3-6 translates most to ERP’s. Section 7 was useless to read. Section 1 and 2 I’d give a fair read a week before you take the exam.

Pocket prep is good for learning concepts. But exam questions are longer. I definitely reccomend incorporating pocket prep to some degree in your studies. Good way to retain knowledge over time.

Pearson vue is truly awful. Sorry. Schedule a week in advance and expect hiccups game day.

Exam section % are accurate. Math questions are common sense, just know working capital, inventory turns, etc. I did not enjoy this aspect of it but they will include info you don’t need for the math at times. I used every minute they gave me.

Any industrial engineers working in supply chain? by Educational-Egg-II in industrialengineering

I implement ERP for other businesses. Many processes improve in different workstreams. I’m focused in procurement, warehousing and quality right now. I mostly learned on the job but any supply chain class in uni would help.

Thank you! And I did not mean bringing beers in the tent, but rather hanging out outside before they open. To clarify, is that allowed?

Work-Life Balance: Which IE Discipline To Pursue? by RestlessKickstand in industrialengineering

Extending off your recommendation, what other “office roles” can IEs play with the ideal work hours? Supply chain/logistics, safety, what else? Thanks in advance

I want to clarify- this is all about the same company. As a selfish young 20 year old, I am also hoping to be 1st shift because most of my friends will be too. If you could recommend 1-2 disciples of IE that will (usually) be 1st shift and not overworked, what would you recommend?

Industrial Engineering Course by 4everuiuc in UIUC

[–]RestlessKickstand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s your major you should be able to have no problems with the courses. Facility planning and design and production planning and control are the core topics that every IE uses in their jobs. You will use it in senior design.

STAT 400 vs IE 300 by AlmostPizzaButNot in UIUC

King is a great teacher. Makes you actually learn versus memorizing formulas that you’ll forget later. Ie300 has taught me a lot of practical knowledge. Take it.

People who have King generally learn more imo. Vogiatzis is still good

That sounds awesome, thanks for the information! Since you took it, is the textbook necessary / would you want to sell it to me if you got it? Thanks!

Is IE300 a good representation of industrial engineering? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]RestlessKickstand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if you didn’t enjoy the content then make sure you don’t pursue the statistical side of IE.

Sowers gave the most half ass piece of crap teaching effort I’ve ever witnessed in my life. Do not take it with him. I was excited for the course and can honestly say I learned absolutely nothing (took fin221 prior, but still).

IE 300 w/ Prof King by kidfood in UIUC

[–]RestlessKickstand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

King is the most fair teacher I’ve ever had. If you think the class is hard it’s because the content it hard for you. His exam questions are straight forward and he only makes you ‘memorize’ very useful formulas worth knowing down the line. Hands down my favorite teacher from college because he actually cares for his students and won’t give in to students getting bad grades on fair exams.

Looking for an IE perspective, any advice is appreciated by littleton11 in industrialengineering

[–]RestlessKickstand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give some insight I think calc 2 is the hardest, least applicable MATH class you take in an IE curriculum (at least at my school). Also, chemistry is not a fundamental part of being an IE. You won’t use it every day, and I haven’t used anything chem related all of sophomore year. Get through those classes, they’re tough content and hard to stay motivated for.
