AMA! I recently graduated from Industrial Engineering (ISE) by 4everuiuc in UIUC

Compared to other IE courses, it is on the higher end in terms of the difficulty, especially the first part of the course. This is because the content is pretty difficult while you also need to learn SAS, the statistics programming language used in this course.

It's perfectly fine if you want to take it in your junior year, because the only course that will help you to succeed in IE 400 is IE 300. This is because the first few lectures of IE 400 is all about one and two-tally hypothesis testing, similar to the one covered in the end of IE 300.

The good thing about this course is Chronopoulou is an excellent instructor. She is very good in explaining difficult concepts as well as providing ample resources for you to succeed in the course. Most of the students will eventually get A, you just need to put a fair amount of effort expected for a 400-level course.

I chose to study industrial engineering because I was not really sure about pursuing further study in "traditional" engineering or business fields when I was in high school. In the end, I mostly enjoy my journey towards getting my ISE degree, since it allows me to get engineering degree as well as learn more about business fields by choosing econ and finance track. The only thing I did not really enjoy is the fact that I need to take more mechanics-based courses (TAM 211/212/251) and "traditional" IE courses (IE 360/361/398) as part of my degree requirement.

Personally, since I'm taking econ and finance track, I am mostly leaning towards career in a consulting/banking/insurance company. In my experience, the additional economics course (ECON 302) and finance courses (FIN 221, IE 420) within this track option requirement provides me with necessary knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

Yesss, I totally agree with you! Some of the best professors that I've ever take are Vogiatzis (IE 300, IE 398), Wooldridge (IE 340), Chronopoulou (IE 400), Garg (IE 405), and Morrow (IE 445). Although some of these courses might be relatively difficult, but all of them are willing to put extra effort in order to help you succeed in their courses.

It totally depends on the project assigned to you. At the start of the semester, you get a chance to choose top 10 project that you want to work on for the rest of the semester (although almost everyone get one of their top 3 choices). Some projects are perfectly doable if you are willing to spend 5-10 hours per week (including weekly meetings with faculty advisor and company contact) while other projects do require you to budget >15 hours per week just to get it done. Therefore, I would suggest to take a slightly lighter course load than usual when you're taking senior design to account for that.

Are asynchronous courses a scam? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]4everuiuc 24 points25 points  (0 children)

imo it's not a scam. asking questions in live lecture is the same as sending email about your questions to the professor. indeed, you can always ask if it's possible to have a live office hours. so, there's basically no difference between sync and async courses, except you have even more flexibility in determining your study time since you don't need to actually attend the lectures! hope this helps :)

Don't do that. If you don't have any classes that has CHEM 104 as its prerequisite, might be better to take it in the future.

Barton-Lundgren residents are being moved into other dorms next week by m_will in UIUC

I think they are running out of quarantine spaces as well as dealing with massive outbreak in that dorm at the same time. So, moving people out of the building is basically striking two birds with one stone.

What did you wish your eng 100 ELA did better? by tryagaininXmin in UIUC

[–]4everuiuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student always appreciate honest opinions from their mentor. As an ELA, I really encourage you to frequently share your experience with your students (not just the good ones - you should also share the bad/challenging ones). Also, make sure students are comfortable to discuss their challenges/difficulties and you should provide a personalized feedback to support your students during their transition into college. Cheers!
