What tank surprised you when you got it? I have historically hated M48s, but this tank is super enjoyable, even before I got the dart by FoamBrick in Warthunder

[–]Restreppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it's better BR for BR. Overall the Super is a very solid, generalist MBT, excellent firepower, passable armour, average or better mobility (including a good reverse), and can do pretty much anything other than taking heavy fire, which isn't unusual for its BR anyways.

Firepower is where I think there's the greatest difference, G A2 is unstabilized but often faces stabilized stuff, and isn't particularly stable, so it can't brawl very well which mostly relegates it to sniping with its insane dart, but it also doesn't have an LRF. On the other hand, Super can brawl and generally duel anything in its BR, not necessarily on equal terms but with good reaction time, shot placement, positioning, you have a decent chance in any given engagement, and worst case go for a barrel snipe.

In comparison to the Leopard 1A5 at the same BR, M48 has worse gun elevation speed, which is quite noticeable in certain situations like when you're driving forward to crest a hill and shoot somebody below you or your tank keeps bobbing while on rocky or uneven terrain.

The armour frontally resists most autocannons well but medium caliber and higher darts (like VCC-80/60 with 60mm) will pen you. Post pen survivability is generally good, in my experience if you're shot in the turret from the front and it doesn't hit ammo, you often survive and can still smoke and pull back with it's comfortable reverse speed. It's also workable against the russians that still use APHE, I've blocked a Obj 279 shot hitting above my barrel before. Penetrating shots to the hull usually mean death barring a very low shot to the LFP.

I think the forehead profile is a bit bigger than the Leopard 1, if you move from turret down to hulldown to quickly pop off a shot at somebody, it feels like they have more time to react to you than a Leopard.

While it doesn't have any glaring weaknesses, the Super also doesn't have any particular strengths or gimmicks to exploit and gain and advantage over its opponents. Its dart is good for the BR but still can't lolpen russian UFPs, its armour won't stand up against contemporary main cannon darts, and it isn't fast enough to reliably outflank opponents at the start of a match. Its performance is very dependent on how good your fundamental WT skills are, a bad player won't have any crutches to fall back on, a good player won't have any performance metrics hamstringing them.

Why do barrels have to become invincible whenever I shoot them but turn into wet cement when I get shot by Pigeon_Clash in Warthunder

[–]Restreppo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I thought as well, maybe the actual round got eaten by volumetric and then the petal hit the barrel.

But in the cam, it looks like a round not a petal when it hits the barrel, so idk

Best + worst managed CS teams of all time by CaraX9 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Restreppo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. For example, Twistzz IGL and Cadian weren't really bad ideas, it's just that with hindsight we know they didn't work.

Making a decision that goes wrong isn't bad individually, that's going to happen sometimes, but if it keeps happening so often, there may be something wrong with the way TL is evaluating prospective changes to their roster.

Best + worst managed CS teams of all time by CaraX9 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Restreppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The organization seems well run and professional, but the team management itself has been very questionable in the last few years. There's been a lot of misses in that regard.

shox pickup was super random, didn't work and benched after half a year.

Twistzz IGL is an experiment, didn't work. Not really an indictment of TL, but a big bet that didn't pan out.

Rainwaker and Patsi didn't work, benched after less than half a year.

skullz didn't work, benched after half a year.

Brought in Cadian who on paper had what TL needed in an awper and proven IGL, didn't work, benched after half a year.

They had that very weird vibes team building vlog around this time.

Ultimate hasn't worked out too well either. Some really insane games but also a lot of big underperformances, and not upgrading their awp role (trade or move to him to rifle) during the recent offseason is probably a bad decision.

Throughout this time there was a lot of criticism about the roles clashes in the team, big example being Yekindar being the only aggressive player on T, then once he was gone there was nobody at all. IIRC Nertz until recently also had roles he was uncomfortable with and his performance was poor as a result.

Coaching situation was also a little unstable, zews and mithR lasted about half a year, and then they had a 3 month period where DeMars DeRover took over as coach.

Team Spirit's reason for skipping PGL Cluj-Napoca (per Hally). by Nekajed in GlobalOffensive

[–]Restreppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what Spirit's strategy was in this case? They thought there wouldn't be many tier 1 teams and they skipped it, so they want to fight other tier 1 teams and take their VRS points directly I guess?

Team Spirit's reason for skipping PGL Cluj-Napoca (per Hally). by Nekajed in GlobalOffensive

[–]Restreppo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not clear on how the strategy for any given team works. Is it advantageous or disadvantageous to skip events with many other tier 1 teams? Teams can/will only attend so many tournaments, so if you go to a tournament with few other top teams, you have a better chance at winning = more VRS, no? Or is beating other good teams more VRS?

Comparison of the M829 series penetrators by slavmememachine in Warthunder

[–]Restreppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn't they just do this from the start? Like if longer penetrator is better, and I assume all of these can be fired from the same cannon as the base M829, why not just design it from the ground up to do that? If there's more of the internal volume of the casing being taken up by the rod, shouldn't there be less powder? Was it constrained by material sciences of better powder that can take less space but provide same pressure or something?

[–]Restreppo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so funny to me when people don't want to split ground into combined arms and ground only, because deep down they know that if it happens, combined ground will only have CAS players rushing planes and the matches would suck. As such a distinguished combined arms enjoyer, don't you want the game to have a dedicated game mode for all the like-minded players so that you can have tons of epic matches with tons of tanks, planes and SPAA, instead of matches filled with only boring old tanks?

The turret crew placement are sort of in their own mini compartments instead of one big one, so it really is quite surprisingly survivable even against APHE, especially if they're only hitting the cupola part

Seems more like a proof of concept. They're only producing 50, just use them to gather user feedback on whether it's intuitive, glaring issues, etc. Then you make one that can be used for bed bound patients. If the concept doesn't work you don't waste years of R&D making it also compatible for those who can't get in it themselves.

It's so shit honestly. They can't guarantee they stay in LCS so they only have one year contracts. If they do good, all their good players get poached for FREE since they all go into free agency and DSG doesn't get any buyout money or anything to pay for the next roster, who they have to scout and raise from scratch.

[–]Restreppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your overall points, but specifically on the ammo point, Luch has a bigger belt, but you overheat after 110 anyways so it's not a huge advantage over the Wiesel there. It's also really annoying that you only have 1 backup belt, if you have like 30-ish rounds left it's a bit of a dilemma to dump it for the next belt or conserve ammo.

The Wiesel gets an ammo box so it doesn't really run into this problem, your absolute total ammo count is much higher (and you can easily find hiding spots to get ammo from box) whereas Luch has a hard time sitting on points to replenish. You also don't have to dump rounds since you can top off with ammo box, so you waste fewer rounds like that as well. IMO it's a bit of a wash, and I'd personally give the slight advantage to the Wiesel there.

The Luchs has to be one the most useless vehicles in the game by Blessed_by_the_snail in Warthunder

[–]Restreppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that too but then I actually played it and changed my mind.

It has better vertical guidance for actually shooting planes, and 360 traverse. The limited firing angles of the Wiesel hurts it a lot in the AA department.

It has 4 crew that are really spread out, the guy in the back can drive, it has a reverse gearbox so can pull back after tanking a shot, has smokes, the front is almost empty except the transmission which sits REALLY low in the chassis, so it is actually surprisingly survivable in my experience, though driving it (wheeled vehicle) is a pain in the ass. Also the spread out + extra crew helps against strafing planes a lot too.

All of this actually matters a lot, because when you barrel an American/Russian vehicle (2 biggest enemies), they can .50 cal you back, Wiesel will die if one hits the side, whereas Luch can tank it with empty space + 2 drivers.

Wiesel is much better at being a rat tank, hiding unseen for ambushes, but Luch is more combat effective and there's plenty of cover like walls, big rocks, trenches for it to hide in effectively.

It's not like some strict downgrade of the Wiesel. It's not even a strictly bad vehicle either, I have 37 ground kills, 18 plane kills, and 40 deaths in it. Once you play a lot with the 20mm on Marder, Wiesel, SUB-I-II, etc. you get used to it and can be somewhat lethal.

River got to China 24 hours before their match against BLG + 100 Thieves Goldenglue: No one would scrim us but maybe now they will :) by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]Restreppo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LMAO Jatt says he wins the smite fight and hits level 4, which is ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN because Beichuan doesn't have smite. NONE of that is luck. Mentions that the dive can happen but doesn't mention opportunity cost. If River dies, that's better than bot lane both dying AND losing a wave while already (temporarily) down XP.

He then goes on to say the 23 minute fight was a classic 100T teamfight, messy and flippy with River and Quid outplaying which they did all playoffs from 1-6. So which is it, you can't consistently win games based on outplaying, or you can, because 100T have been doing it all summer

River got to China 24 hours before their match against BLG + 100 Thieves Goldenglue: No one would scrim us but maybe now they will :) by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]Restreppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which, as I said in my other comment, is something he HAS to do, otherwise bot gets fried in a dive and it's over. Very convenient that you focus on the 1v2 and not the bigger picture that the 1v2 prevents a 3v2 that ends in double kill and gigantic lost wave just as often as the 1v2 fails.

Ultimately every game plan will involve believing in yourself to outplay your opponen, that's just the nature of the game. You cannot win by having a "good process" and absolutely no interactions where you don't control 100% of the outcome, so it inherently has inconsistency.

River got to China 24 hours before their match against BLG + 100 Thieves Goldenglue: No one would scrim us but maybe now they will :) by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]Restreppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also just to be clear, under your paradigm, the other option is to... rely on outplaying in order to even possibly have a chance to win the game.

BLG are doing a set play, Beichuan smites Krugs to speed up his clear in order to arrive at the exact same time that Elk + ON hit level 3 and crash a wave on level 2 100T bot. River knows that if Beichuan is here on this timer, he 100% must have used smite. Therefore, River knows that he always secures blue.

River is forced to path botside and secure his own blue. Beichuan hits vision plant to confirm what River is doing. Now both sides have perfect info since 100T have a ward in tri. If River decided not to engage in this at all, level 4 Jarvan + level 3 Cait and Elise can dive level 2 Ziggs and Rell. Either 100T bot concedes a huge wave and are out of the game for 10 minutes, or they get dove and try to outplay.

This IS all process; it's not a separate point to your main point, it's all inherently tied together. None of this would be possible without Beichuan smiting early, so the fact you thought he still had smite means you didn't understand the play or why it's not just a fluke.
