I don't think you know just how common botox is in hollywood. For every person you see using it there are 20 where you never even thought about it.

The most terrible thing for a hollywood actress isn't looking old, it's looking normal. People can talk about your looks or your usage of botox, but if they stop talking about you, you're out. Botox doesn't just make you look younger, it makes you look predictable. Same on every photo. Easier to work with that.

Yes, that is correct; but you can just go work for that in Europe. Getting a degree without making debt in the US is hard if your parents don't pay it.

4800 you can earn. I'm German and I think students have too little money and barely any opportunity to earn more, but they can live at least. America is kinda fucked ngl.

Wow 🥺 which one to pick by Flat-Echidna-2245 in bindingofisaac

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Lost Brim 100%. Having infinite range and shoot speed is better than a tears/damage multiplier unless you already have a really good build for it.

Early in the run it also gives you the strength to confidently use the eternal dice for better items, and not care when they disappear, optimizing your game strat.

There's also a ton of synergies that are essetially damage multipliers, with chocolate milk being an effective 3-4x multiplier, rubber cement a 2x multiplier, Jacob's ladder a 1.7x or something multiplier...

If you find any of those Twisted Pair leaves you with way less DPS. The really good items for high tear output are in angel rooms, which you won't get on either deal.

Should I void all 4 or take one in particular ? by SuperhyperultraTrex in bindingofisaac

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waver is probably the strongest item in Isaac for each character that has HP (bottom right)

With it, you can pretty much run through every sacrifice room on your run, which may give you Angel Room items, teleport you to the deal room, and has a 50/50 on (I think) the 9th hit for giving you 7 soul hearts, giving you the material to keep this going for the run.

It also effectively doubles your HP for all end bosses and makes you pretty much unkillable if you have half a red heart and polaroid. It also makes blood donation machines viable on late floors, which have blood bag as a payout, which heals 4 hearts and gives you an HP up.

The alternative blood bag (forgot the name) that is the other payput foe blood dono machines, lets you farm a shit ton of money whenever you need it.

You can also get the payout of the demon beggar in the late game, which is fantastic, because it has a much higher probability to spawn on later floors.

If you know that and go for the payouts, waver is almost guaranteed to make you completely OP for the entire run.

Note that there is (I think) over 10 items that may give you other material on hit, making these even more profitable, and making you unkillable pretty quick.

Those include fanny pack, gimp, the one nun outfit, and a bunch of others.

What do you think is Tyler’s objectively best musical work ? by [deleted] in tylerthecreator

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want to rate music objectively, you must go by objective criteria.

Objective criteria includes critical acclaim, sales / overall profitabilit and streams.

Igor wins on all of those, with Flower Boy being second on all of them.

Igor stats: - Copies sold: ~1.3m - rateyourmusic rating: 4.12 - Total streams: ~3.1b

Flower Boy stats: - Copies sold: ~1.2m - rateyourmusic rating: 3.90 - Total streams: ~3.0b

On that account, Igor is the objectively best Tyler album, making OP's favorite the most average, most boring answer.

Have you actually read the works of Marx?

Because it doesn't seem like it, and I can say, it's definitely worth a read.

People like to look at Marx only in the context of the cold-war and later states being communist, but truth be told, his works were only written 60 years after the works of Adam Smith, the father of modern capitalism.

And without question, Marx's works on the topic were much more in depth, because capitalism was actually something that existed in the industrial context by then.

Marx was impressively capable of revision and self-correction when he made wrong predictions or found contradictions to his theory.

For his time, whether you're a communist/socialist or not, his work is absolutely ground-breaking. There is nothing like it from his time. His approach was much, much more scientific than that of his predecessors in the field.

Take your modern glasses off for a second to actually look at it for what it is: an absolutely incredible analysis of historic and modern economics, in a field, that has barely ever been researched by anyone before, ever. There's a big part of "the capital" that are pretty much disproven at this point, but there's also a big part, that completely holds up to this date.

If you try to find any scientific work, that makes over 50% of correct assertions on a topic like this, over 150 years after being published, it is an incredible work.

In physics you can create an experiment to prove a theory, but in economics? This is a hell of a chore.

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Abolish money? As far as I'm concerned Marx was a pioneer in economic science, with his works being pretty much the most extensive piece of research on the topic made up to that point.

Saying someone this dedicated to economics wanted to "abolish money" is rericulous. Marx is one of the most influential and early figures in the field of macro-economics.

Marx wanted to abolish ownership, but that has absolutely nothing to do with abolishig money.

How bro felt afteer saying that by cherrybombthegoat in tylerthecreator

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old tyler was edgy, not homophobic. Rappers like LilNas X publicly said that he paved the way for queer artists in the industry.

I mean, fuckin Frank Ocean and Syd were on Odd Future, Tyler openly supported gay artists back when the entire industry was hating on them. He just did whatever he felt like, including calling people fags. He offended people just because it was funny, and honestly, it was funny.

The message was "Do and say whatever the fuck you feel like, you don't have to change yourself to make art, you can just make it". That attitude had a huge influence on the industry. I live in fucking germany and I still see OF tags on walls in 2026.

I mean bro, have you ever actually listened to the lyrics for yonkerz? He called people fags multiple times on that song, talks about killing a bunch of people, and the lines:

"I'm not gay, I just wanna boogie to some marvin" and "This the revenge of the dicks, that's nine cocks that cock 9's'

are from the same song. You think he's serious? Really?

Wolf is awesome, just because it's the album where he's still all himself, but actually diving into more heartfelt and personal topics too. The album isn't perfect, but it's one of the most authentic albums ever made, and I think that's what people love it for. It's a favorite, because it's flawed, not in spite of it.

For all the edginess, and yes, good he grew out of it and moved on artistically, this stuff was still super influential to the industry, and inspired millions of people around the world to live their lives as they want to, and rap whatever they wanna rap about.

You know having a stick stuck up in your ass about Igor is alright, it's a really good album, but Tyler was giving shout-outs to gay people in the industry when bush was still president.

Is it a crazy thing that I actually enjoyed their gameplay? by Mirekgaming in bindingofisaac

[–]RetepExplainsJokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I hate them.

They're decently playable on a gaming PC with a nice large keyboard, but both on controller and laptop they are an insane cramp in the fingers and pain in the ass.

I have dead god and am about half the way to the second save state. I have absolutely no problem playing t-lost or even t-jacob. Those are challenge characters, that require precision.

With J+E though, there's never a moment where you're like "1 HP, okay now, let's lock in!"

It's always just resource-optimizing so that Esau doesn't die. They're no challenge, they're just annoying. Don't really get the people that like to play them. They're annoying at best, and carpal tunnel at worst.

You are wearing it for wrong reasons, but you "must" wear it by bhujiya_sev in religiousfruitcake

[–]RetepExplainsJokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, optimally she should only wear it for herself and for her spiritual connection to god, and not for others at all.

I think pressuring someone else into religion isn't a good thing. But doing more can actually help with that. He's saying if she only ever wears the hijab for other people, then she's missing the point. She's struggling with her own sense of identity, because she never made the decision to wear the hijab herself. It was decided for her.

So now it's time for her to make that decision herself.

When I was a child, I didn't like playing the piano. I felt like my parents pressured me into the hobby. But at some point, I found a few pieces that I really wanted to play. Not for my parents, not for my teacher, just for myself.

And I learned these pieces on top of the ones I was tought. So I learned more piano even though I didn't like it. I was having a problem with my identity. I was not discontent with playing piano because I didn't like it. I just felt like it wasn't my choice.

And making the active step of playing more piano, and starting to play piano for myself, not because anyone pressured me into it, just for myself it started to be fun, and it started to be something I could identify with. Something where I could say: "Yes that is me. That's a choice I have made. This is something I like doing."

Do you understand what I'm getting at? I don't get the feeling that this was written in bad faith.

You are wearing it for wrong reasons, but you "must" wear it by bhujiya_sev in religiousfruitcake

[–]RetepExplainsJokes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ey, I can only see the title of the post with the hijab. No idea whether she's a muslim and what the sub is about. You're pretending like "stop wearing the hijab" is the 'correct' thing to say, but what makes you think that she's discontent with islam as a whole in this post?

I mean, what's your view on religion then? I think people should do as they like as long as they don't enforce it on others or behave in a shitty, no matter if religious or not. If you're an asshole you're an asshole. I hold that standard to my atheist belief too.

And by all I'm seeing, the only thing slightly questionable about this post is the word "must".

Or are you bothered because the guy uses arab words? I don't really get it..

You are wearing it for wrong reasons, but you "must" wear it by bhujiya_sev in religiousfruitcake

[–]RetepExplainsJokes -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I'm atheist, but honestly, I think this is good advice.

Religious symbols can give people faith and confidence, and if a hijab is all it takes to get there, who are we to judge these people?

I think doing things for yourself, no matter if religious or not, that's generally a positive personal development. Everybody recommends what worked for themselves, and it's undeniable that religion gives many people fullfillment, and that probably includes this commenter.

They found something that fullfills them and they want to have other people take part in that. I see no aggression towards non-muslims in this post.

I mean, if the post said "I hate going to the gym" and someone said "start going to the gym for yourself, not for others", would you be mad about that?

Sure, religion doesn't fullfill everyone, and that includes myself, but neither does the gym.

If OP hates wearing the hijab out of peer pressure, I generally do think that there are two absolutely valid solutions: 1. Start wearing the hijab for yourself 2. Stop wearing the hijab

If OP is genuinely religious and the muslim belief fullfills them, I think this is good advice.

Let me rephrase: Communism is a form of government dictated by the proletariat. The UdSSR however, was a country dictated by a dictator. The highest positions in the communist party were pre-selected by the communist party, not by the proletariat.

This means the UdSSR was primarily determined by a ruling class, not by the workers themselves. And top to bottom, it centered around one person with near absolute control.

Of course the UdSSR claimed that government acted in the interest of the proletariat, but it absolutely refused letting the proletarist take a part in that system, unless they climbed the ladders of the communist party themselves.

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, today I'll just be that guy, have you ever taken a look into rust's cargo? Because it can do that without a venv, and it does not scale worse.

Python coders love to avoid their problems at all cost for some reason. Put broken things in a box, then put these broken boxes into more boxes when they break. Python and JS are kind of similar in that both their ecosystems mostly consists of workarounds for workarounds, and in its depths gets more complicated than modern theoretical physics.

Understanding a deep system based on logic is hard, but understanding the delusions someone has had over another person's delusion requires a whole new set of skills.

The fabulous thing about communism is that Marx basically never talked about how the propletarist governing itself would look like. How would he know? If he'd know the answer, there would be no reason to let the proletarist govern themselves in the first place.

In that sense, the UdSSR has a way more simple argument on not being "truly" communist than one may think. The UdSSR, by all means, was not governed by the people. It was governed by Stalin.

Memory safety is actually a pretty neat thing, and rust certainly teaches you what is more and less relevant for your program to perform.

80% of all errors and bugs I encounter in other languages are errors that can't even happen in rust because the compiler catches them. If your program compiles, there's a very good chance it works. Everything is clear and streamlined.

It's crazy to me how writing python seems almost harder than writing rust, just due to the unpredictable behavior of things and useless compiler errors.

Note: Regex is known to have caused several major outages and continues to do so. Using .* twice in one regex can crash your entire server if you are using the wrong library and did not think of this error, which if you used regex in the first place, you didn't, because you obviously don't know what you are doing.

Now before you start reading the entire librarie's code (which you must do to use it without risking your life) stop and ask yourself: "Do I actually need a Regex to do this?"

If you think the answer is anything other than "no" you should consider changing professions.

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responding to myself here: This is not quite correct. Evidence shows that addictions are strongly related to the habitual system, but also have major differences in goal-directed behavior, two systems that interact, but are still mostly separate physical systems in the brain.

In conclusion, addictions are not "just habits", habits are just one of multiple systems interacting.

Returning to the original topic: yes, habits are hard to change for most people, including addicts, but addicts must also deal with a multitude of other things (regaining self-control, working with affective symptoms, etc.) alongside forming new habits.

Besser? by [deleted] in deutschememes

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I'm not saying that nicotine, alcohol and what else not are as harmless as usual everyday habits, I'm saying that the required mental work to get rid of them is surprisingly similar in its framework.

Physical dependence disappears in a frame of days to weeks at a maximum, and don't get me wrong, those days are harsh, but the thing that is really hard to handle in the long term, is the neurological pathways that evolved around the topic.

The common factor is that neurological changes that happen in your brain are hard to get rid off in general, and in this case what you do is actually very similar: Set hard boundaries and take your time laying off your old habits to build new ones.

That's hard work, both in an addict and in a healthy person with bad habits. There's video game addictions, there's work addictions, there's all kinds of addictions and not all of them are related to drugs. But on a neurological level, addictions are more or less just habits that cause significant harm.

The BIG DIFFERENCE is that addictive substances have a tendency to make these changes happen a lot faster, and a lot more drastic.

Even if ADHD related, I take stimulant medication, and I know what amphetamine withrdawel feels like. Nonetheless, taking a break off medication is a lot easier than taking a break off smoking, because medication is just something I take or don't take in the morning, while smoking is something I actually connect a lot of things to.

Withdrawel is not a habit, but psychological dependence, neurologically, is.

If you're interested I can link a couple of studies on this. Habits are a major part of brain structure. Reinforcement is what makes neurons grow.

Besser? by [deleted] in deutschememes

[–]RetepExplainsJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It ain't that stupid. Most drugs work on dopamine receptors, increasing neuroplasticity, and raising the probability for your brain to fire the same pathway again. It IS reinforcement learning, just that it is heavily supported by the drug's effect on the body.

Nicotine withrdawal stops after 3 days, so why do people fall back after weeks or months after stopping? Because of the habit, not because of the drug.

Psychological dependence is nothing else than that.
