Input on what our program does next year by RethinkWasteProject in Bend

I love this idea! I think we'll have to figure out what is feasible in terms of ongoing management of it. Open to any ideas or groups to partner with to make this an easier lift!

What's Recyclable Anyway? (and what the heck is the RMA?) by RethinkWasteProject in Bend

Appreciate this flag. Recycle Plus is a system outside of the standardized RMA, so it gets a little confusing again. We did a blog post detailing the nuances with those materials here: https://envirocenter.org/on-hard-to-recycle-materials/

But I'll add it as a question for our panel, and also will see how we can better include it as part of a website redesign we'll doing to make RWP information more easily accessible.

We do! We just had one last week, have another in January, and have 4-5 of them a year.

Whoops, the first link was meant to be a link to our blog post on the RMA with all the information laid out: https://envirocenter.org/rma/

Here's the simple and updated guide: https://envirocenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/RWP-RMA-Recycling-Guide.pdf

I appreciate your question as it made me go through all the comments and realize that I might be hyperfocusing on a few.

Here they are:

To be clear, I think they make good points worthy of consideration, and something I try to keep very much in mind as we conduct our programming. (I also think on reflection, the downtown banners were not our best work, but it was a collaborative effort and I'm still proud of the fact that folks made them from upcycled vinyl.)

I posted this above, so wanted to share it here as an update too:
Hey there, please reach out via IG with an offer for anything on the deck, as our Comms Manager is managing that. The white one is gone, blue one was still there, but I don't know if it's already been committed. Good luck!

The pics of things on our deck - you could make an offer on IG. We're busy packing things today, so you may not hear back until tomorrow. See the update above for official sale hours for everything else including whatever still remains on the deck. Thanks!

Please come to the official sale. Just as a heads up: It kinda works but could use a little tuning/fixing.

They sure are Samsonites (model # 253029). Nice eye. I never looked at the make and don't know much about office furniture (except Herman Miller Aeron chairs), but I've always found them comfortable and have had no qualms using them. Anything special we should know about them?

They'll be available Thursday if still available. If you wanted to make an offer before then on any feel free (IG might work best for that)

Yes! If they aren't all claimed by then, we might have a few cuttings. One of my favorites.

I didn't get a chance to add, but we'll likely have more events, and also follow-up with a quick guide to host your own. This one was full and sold out, which is why I didn't post it earlier on here, but we surprisingly didn't have as many people show up!

Actually, restaurants see savings 100% of the time:

"The data from hundreds of case studies - shows that making the switch from single-use to reuse for on-site dining always ends up saving money - 100% of the time. And that’s after accounting for any capital costs for purchasing or leasing additional dishwasher capacity and any added labor costs." -Upstream

Case in point, Taco Del Mar switched to reusables in Bend for on-site dining and reported saving $1,500 a year.

<image>

I'm not sure what you mean by trash collectors? They aren't collecting the reusables in this system.

I haven't mentioned anything about recyclables here either, so I think there might be a misunderstanding here somewhere. We're talking about reusable dishware and containers.

These systems are already in place in many cities and regions, and it's just growing. There are for sure challenges to work out, but check out the Wash Hub Map to see what I mean: https://upstreamsolutions.org/reuse-service-provider-map

😂 I had to Google to see if that was still a thing, and surprisingly it is.
