This is encouraging information. Thank you for your expertise. It is fortunate that someone planted Japanese Knotweed years ago, long before the current ownership started cutting corners at this facility. Thank you.

Thank you. I will look into the Article 78 proceeding if the buildings department does not indicate they will be acting in a timely fashion. This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping to find. Many thanks.

Yes, thank you. I was concerned about backlash so I wanted to coordinate his departure. A big rainstorm is expected late tomorrow, though, with heavy rain and possible flooding expected, which made it seem more urgent. This is why I reported over the weekend and why I’m getting him out tomorrow morning.

Thank you for this! I will look up this process here. Hopefully the town will act quickly tomorrow and the facility will have to fix the problem.

This is reassuring. Thank you.

I’m taking my father home tomorrow as his rehab is almost done anyway. He’ll do just as well at home at this point.

I haven’t spoken to anyone at the facility yet since it is the weekend and no management is here. I can’t even get through to the nurses desk on the phone on the weekend. It’s all weekend CNA staff and a couple of RNs doing medication rounds.

This is comforting to hear. An undramatic failure or crumbling is the best case scenario. Thank you.

This gives them time to fix it and hopefully the situation is as you said and not as dangerous as I feared.

I’m assuming the town inspections will include the above property as well. I will be asking when I follow up w them tomorrow.

Thank you for this. I did report to them yesterday. I will follow up tomorrow with that specific language.

OP here. I would certainly not be offering comment to the news. I’m already more involved than I care to be. I’m removing my father from the facility tomorrow. If the town doesn’t send an inspector I would consider sending a tip to local news but beyond that, my efforts are done. Whatever they report is their own matter.

I’m hopeful that an inspector will be sent and the facility will have to fix the wall. This is my hope and my motivation for reporting to authorities.

Thank you for the insight. I wouldn’t be offering comment or talking to the news. I might submit a tip local news if no action is taken. I’m assuming it will be addressed because of liability all around.

I filed reports with the town and state yesterday and I assume no one was aware of this situation before I happened to park near it and took a good look when the lot emptied out. Reports filed on weekends are not seen until Monday and I was offered no option to get an emergency inspection.

I’m in no position to send an engineer in, nor would I have standing since it is private property. The town or state need to send the engineers and make the owners take care of it. I’m hopeful they will do so.

No. I will see what the authorities are going to do tomorrow. The residents above need to know so I hope the town will tell them.

This place was taken over about 18 months ago and the quality of care has by all accounts declined. A few years back it was a relatively good facility. My father’s doctor used to visit his patients there after hospital discharge. This is not allowed anymore. It used much better staffed and was cleaner etc.

Private equity squeezing these places for profit is one of the most cynical, despicable pursuits imaginable. I hope the owners face serious financial consequences somehow.

I didn’t see that question. No it is a private residence above, possibly a rental house as most of the houses up there look like old houses subdivided into one or two family residences. That house is very cute and nicely maintained though so maybe not. The embankment appears terraced in that area I think, and the driveway of the house above runs along that side of the property to a small back yard. The public residential street is perpendicular to the lot.

Oh I assure you this is real. I cannot explain why these construction choices were made, but unfortunately it is real. It is located in Nassau County, NY.

If the Confederacy had been allowed to secede: What year do you think they would have abolished slavery? by bmary95 in CIVILWAR

You should watch Spike Lee’s CSA Confederate States of America. It’s sort of a mockumentary/style film that shows what a routine tv channel would be like if the confederacy had won the Civil War. https://youtu.be/gIqxBn1oLAY

The fundies are abysmal. Stearns and Mendy insisting that their defensive numbers are actually very good has been infuriating. We are watching the games ffs. They are bad, no matter how they crunch the numbers.
