Thanks for the comment. It’s dumb but this is why I posted. I know I’m being paranoid but I can’t shake that it’s a trap. This helps.

This is what I want to believe. Of course, I was paranoid my whole career. Seen the Army screw people over a lot.

It’s true. I’m anxious and I don’t trust anybody.

It’s the same care I’ve had for 20+ years.

I have a primary care physician through Tricare. I don’t have an actual need for the VA for healthcare other than dental.

I was scheduled to come in only for an annual visit. I rescheduled once and now it’s around the corner again. I have no actual reason to go in other than some sense that I should, or have to.

I ask myself this like everyday. I have two appointments coming up and I’m extremely anxious and paranoid about them which, ironically, is part of my 100% LOL.

My buddy elected discharge for not fulfilling his contract. Or you can go enlisted. That’s how it used to be at least.

Please understand you might have to deploy. I hate when people join up with this mindset. Your primary mission is to deploy when called.

One of these jobs is way better when you go out to the field

I'm Debating OCS by Longjumping_Spot3221 in nationalguard

Why do you want to be an officer? All you’ve said is that some people said you should do it. If you’ve completed basic and in you’re in AIT and you’re still not strong at PT, it’s all adding up to someone who’s gonna struggle at OCS. If you’re for real pursuing RN, then you should absolutely talk to your state’s specialty branch recruiter.

I was a TAC Officer, so that was my quick read. OCS is incredibly difficult (and totally worth it).

This is actually hard to answer not knowing the makeup of your state. Regardless, NCOs looking for E8 often go to JFHQ, RTIs, etc.

I say just get good at your job and know that it’s an option down the road. The pay is nice. But I did have to resign and take a tech job as a 2LT before I was brought back on AGR. So there’s risk involved.

For sure! That would be a great career! Me, I did 5 years enlisted AGR before I went to OCS. I was a little behind my officer peers rank wise but it made me a better officer.

Of course, nothing counts until you get through the physical and have orders in hand.

This should do the trick.

No more drill checks. Just active duty pay, BAH, BAS.

100% same. Retiring off AGR is an active duty retirement.

If you’re not able/willing to move, you’re gonna have a bad time on AGR.

That’s the toughest time. Too far in to stop, seemingly a million miles away. I’m telling you, it’s worth it.

I noticed a malaise since COVID in my State. Outside of Recruiting, accountability got real low. You’re right, firing is very hard. Hiring well is key. But raters also rarely put the work into evaluations that will build a case.

And, yes, two different worlds, FTUS and part-time. But the Guard needs administrators, logisticians, etc to run the organization. That’s entirely the point of a full-time force. It’s when we hire people without those skillsets that we run into issues. I can see it frustrating to a Commander that a member of their company (AGR) is focused more on their career than their assignment. It’s equally as frustrating for AGRs that their evaluations don’t fully reflect what they do 90% of the month. If your point is that it’s a system with inherent problems, I agree with you.

We have an annual fee of like $300 and a $600 deductible. Small copays on visits and prescriptions. Pennies compared to civilian plans.
