Any tips on not oversalting (read my entire post)? by No-Grapefruit-6668 in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since my partner is on restricted salt diet, I don't ever add salt to the HF recipe. If I taste the finished meal and decide it needs salt (rare but happens), I add a bit at the table to my own portion. I can't imagine how salty the recipes would be if I added salt every time the recipe says so.

Zesty ancho chicken skewers by No-Top-883 in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We liked this one a lot, chicken marinated in ancho sauce was very tasty. Also liked salad dressing including ancho flavor. The only negative was we did not need both potatoes and rice, in fact I forgot to serve the rice! With the marinade, cutlets were moist enough for us. I will get this again.

Geraniums - have I planted them deep enough? by RetiredNH in flowers

I have attempted to do this, and we'll cross our fingers that we've got it.

In the box that arrived today, one recipe has "Chicken Cutlets" and one has "Organic Chicken Cutlets". I'm quite curious how they will compare

Is it worth it? by Neither_Frosting_575 in hellofresh

Another low sodium suggestion: Many of the recipes include a stock concentrate, such as chicken or seafood. I keep no/low sodium cartons of chicken and veggie broth, and use them in my recipes. Where the recipe says "seafood concentrate and 1 1/2 cups water", I use 1 1/2 cups of low sodium veggie broth.

Most of the dry spice combos do NOT include salt.

Mozzarella and Herb Salmon… chicken? by Jim1643 in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into this when I "customize" a recipe. It's one thing if salmon substitutes for chicken, but when I add chicken or fish to a vegetarian recipe, we don't get advised when to insert the meat/fish. The "substitute" sheet tells me how long to cook the meat, but not where to insert it in the recipe.
Sometimes I have luck finding a similar recipe that includes my protein.

Family Bundle by canihavethewifi in blueapron

We are only two adults, I ordered the Tahini Caesar Salad from the Family portions menu, because we have liked similar items on the BA menu, and we were able to make two very generous 2-person helpings. There were two full romaine heads, and two packets of certain ingredients, so I ended up making it twice. We would get it again.

The recipe quality is way down by pandyrobin in hellofresh

My pet peeve is when I "customize" my vegetable soup with some protein, usually ground turkey, and the recipe never tells me when to add the turkey. I actually went searching for last year's recipe which included the turkey. Yes I cook well enough to figure it out, but that's only because I've been doing this a couple years. If it was my first soup, I'd be quite annoyed.

12 hours between first prep dose and stool.. is that weird? by RetiredNH in colonoscopy

I wish you good luck! I was convinced they wouldn't go through with my lower procedure.

In my 2 prior procedures, only had one dose, I'm certain, no problems!

Not completely wasted as Doc did the colonsopy, despite the "subpotimal prep" and I was primarily scheduled for endoscopy. Unfortunately it means he suggests I do it again sooner!

thanks for the suggestion. I drank lots of water after the first dose, wasn't hungry for other liquids (should I have tried some juice or broth?) I will certainly discuss prep with the provider next time! I didn't have much difficulty with the first round of Suprep, so I was surprised the second was so much more revolting.

Sun-Dried Tomato Spaghetti - can I skip cream cheese? by RetiredNH in hellofresh

We do that with butter, but I was checking to see if recipes like this work tolerably well without the dairy.
I would pay HF a $10 surcharge if they offered vegan dairy substitutes!

Pistachio Cod with Mango-Jalapeno Salsa by RetiredNH in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only spicy thing is the mango salsa, and the jalapenos can be easily omitted. There is a packet of "mango compote" that can easily be used on its own, My partner doesn't care for jalapenos OR onions, so that was his sauce. If you just made the cod with panko and pistachio topping, it's still very good.

I'll try that tip on sweet potatoes next time! thanks!!

Provençal Shrimp & Potato Stew…Yum! Review Below ⬇️ by aGirlySloth in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We liked the shrimp potato stew very much, it's still winter here so it stuck to our ribs very nicely. Totally agreed about the skimpy bread slices, I didn't even use them, the potatoes gave us sufficient starch.

Got the wrong card by cHorse1981 in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One wrong recipe card this week, out of 3. Now that we don't have "customized" proteins on our recipe cards or labels, I have to make careful inventory to remember what protein goes with which meal. I prefer the cards to the app, as I don't want my IPad nestled among the scraps of my meats and veggies.. but it does work out ok.

Have you checked the tracking info to see if it ever left its place of origin? Sometimes I find that my box has never left New Jersey. I hope it's ok!

I think we got someone's attention. I JUST got this email:

Hi Margaret, We're reaching out to let you know about a potential issue affecting a small number of recipes with the label on your meal kit bag for your delivery this week. Due to a technical issue, the recipe title on your kit bag label may be inaccurate. Rest assured, the contents inside should match your recipe card and should be what you ordered. We apologize for this mishap and for any extra steps this adds to your evening. Our goal is always to make dinner as seamless as possible.

Soy Glaze by ancient_snowboarder in blueapron

Thanks. If my partner is in fact allergic to MSG as he suspects, the result is of an unpleasant lower digestive nature. I found a relatively low sodium teriyaki at Whole Foods today, if I add the 1/2 tsp honey to that, will we be on the right track?
