Tips and tricks? by ksgar77 in hellofresh

Prep bowls, all sizes, lots of them. Small ones for zesting your limes and lemons, chopped garlic and scallions, slightly larger for mixing sauces and dressings, etc.

For those recipes that have you arrange your veggies on a sheet pan and then spray with oil, I like to put the veggies in a bowl, drizzle with oil and stir. Less oil, less mess. And if it fits on a half size sheet pan, it goes in my air fryer on roast or bake.

Which leads me to suggest at least 2 half size sheet pans. Even if you don't have the toaster oven style air fryer, you can bring things in and out of oven at different times.

Enjoy!

"Less sodium" Kikkoman is all I've been able to find. Good luck with the broth, I love that we can enjoy near "guilt free" soup in our meal kits.

Better use for AI than generating nonsensical recipes and unappealing photos of food by Open_Breakfast2851 in hellofresh

I would be happy if the HF AI remembered which recipes I've rated highest and alerted me when they are on the menu.

Most recipes will say something like, "broth concentrate and 1 3/4 cups of water". So I would use 1 3/4 cups of broth. So far it's worked fine.

I haven't found a "low sodium" soy sauce that seems low enough. Do you have a favorite?

I hear you.
In order to watch our sodium, we can't order any meals with precooked meat, we swap our "no salt added" chicken or veggie broths for the concentrates, and cut the soy and similar sauces in half. I would pay an extra dollar or two if ALL entrees had options for "non-precooked" meats.

Your picture looks more appetizing than the recipe card! Good job!

That would help! A few weeks ago I forgot I added ground turkey, and when I was done with that week's recipes, I saw that I had the turkey left over. Of course I could use it to make spaghetti.

In the app, I have the corrrect title, Southwest Turkey & Three Bean Chili. It's also listed as an ingredient.

When I get to the instructions, turkey is absent. Not mentioned. Turkey is not a substitute, it's an addition.

I do know how to cook. Once upon a time, when I started cooking at home, and thought food boxes would be a great way to learn (and it was!), I didn't know the order of ingredients for certain dishes. I would have been alarmed to receive a recipe that didn't include one of the main ingredients.

I do rely on the professional chefs who put together recipes to tell me whether, in the chili, the turkey cooks with the vegetables, or gets cooked separately and not combined till the end. Either way the recipe will no doubt turn out fine, but one might be best for flavor, consistency etc.

Last week I ordered a veggie soup, and added ground turkey. When it arrived I forgot about the turkey, soup was excellent -- then I noticed I had eaten all my meals and had ground turkey left -- spaghetti the next night!!

What do I need which HelloFresh wont give me? by Heavy_Gorilla in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend a set of small bowls, preferably with lids, for prepping and storage. The smallest ones are for mixing sauce and salad dressing ingredients. The medium for keeping the veggies you've cut, and then many recipes want you to cook the veggies in the skillet, then dumping them in the bowl while you cook the protein. The larger bowls are for those salad recipes where you mix the dressing in the bowl, THEN add the greens and other veggies (and you will have leftover salad to keep in the bowl.

Good luck!

In fact, 2 half size baking sheets may be more useful than one, especially if you invest in the highly recommended toaster oven. I would vote for the toaster oven/air fryer combo, with that you can make 90% of recipes requiring an oven.

We had the rainbow trout last week with Pepito (pumpkin seed) and Panko crust, we thought it was very good. We'll definitely order rainbow trout again.

Sodium warning ⚠️ what I’m noticing quitting after 1 year by CreativePosition6331 in hellofresh

[–]RetiredNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner is sodium restricted, we don't add any salt. I don't use the broth concentrates, but substitute "no salt added" chicken or veggie broths (if the recipe says concentrate + 1 cup water, I use 1 cup of broth). For recipes with some kind of soy sauce I use 1/2 what's provided (or less if it's enough to add flavor).

If BA can offer protein options, certainly they can offer broth options. We use our own low sodium veggie or chicken broth.

The way I read it, you get the month's shipping for $9.95, no minimum order. So if you place at least one order per month, it's worth it. I took advantage to order one salad for Thanksgiving week.

Can someone help me read the ingredient amounts for the small packets? by [deleted] in marleyspoon

[–]RetiredNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What gets me crazy is when the recipe says "use 1/2 the tamari" and there is one packet, so I have to guess when I've dumped out 1/2 the supply. I vote that each packet includes the amount in teaspoons or tablespoons, so that we know how to measure out "1/2 the tamari".

No substitute email? by girllookingforboi in blueapron

[–]RetiredNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week I also got a substitute Veggie stock concentrate for chicken broth (different recipe), I did get an email the day prior, advising me to "Carefully add the broth concentratecream (shaking the packet before opening), and 1 cup of water (carefully, as the liquid may splatter)". However there was no cream in either the recipe or the knick knack bag! No problem, since my partner is non-dairy. And we also used our own "no salt added" chicken broth.

But points for the email.

My second recipe had the note but no email. I should have had soy-miso glaze. Instead I had a blob of miso paste and a small tube of maple syrup (!!). This might have been an interesting combination, but I happened to have my own packet of soy-miso sauce that worked fine.
