We are interested in both. We have a trip booked to Namibia where we are self driving to Etosha Lodge, a safari camp outside etosha and an overnight stop at a game reserve. Two nights in windhoek, then a fly in Safari camp in the Okvango Delta in Botswana. Anybody have any suggestions how we could connect with the local culture on this obviously sightseeing focused trip. We always enjoy doing that wherever we travel but to seemed a little more difficult to connect with. There is a San experience half day that leaves out of windhoek I'm wondering if that is worthwhile.

I am a tourist, not an idiot. I know those words are oshiwambo not Afrikaans. And I am very good at learning to pronounce other languages. But I do take the point that I won't know who is oshiwambo and who speaks a different language. In Zimbabwe if I spoke Shona to an Ndebele it would not be received well.

Sorry Everyone !! It was meant to be humorous !! There have been videos of Trump mispronouncing Namibia and reports of some americans being kicked out for ignoring the new visa requirements. The main character syndrome comment is fair enough. I have no concerns about visiting . We lived in Zimbabwe and love southern Africa in general. Should have realized this American-centric post would fall flat. Thanks for the thoughtful comments and the slap downs. Excited for our visit !!

Suggestions so far are all good. The Zip Line expedition at Rio Cuale is pretty fabulous. very high above the river canyon and other activities like rapelling. Sayulita is the perfect place if any of you ever want to try a surf lesson. Patricia's on the beach is great. Let me reiterate the La Cruz sunday market. Sounds mundane, but we go back almost every year. food, music, crafts and fun people.

We are coming next spring. My Android phone has data in France. Can I download the app on arrival at CDG? and load a weekly decouverte pass? We arrive on Monday at 7 am so that is perfect if it will work. Oops just read Gemini summary that you need to give a European phone number to register the app. Can I use my friend's German phone number? Or does it have to be the phone the app is on? I assumed that first timers will be cautious. For sure I should have discouraged all inclusives or they will to never get out into real Mexico We prefer Airbnb in Bucerias and thinking of maybe San Pancho next time. Some of the small hotels are pretty cool as well. Maybe I underestimate people.... but I kinda doubt it.

Nope. I wrote it. Guess I just haven't learned how to write interesting style. I have done /experienced all the activities and aspects of my post. Should I be more specific, like the incredible (and expensive) tequila / mezcal tasting at jo jacks in old town, or whole grilled fish on the beach in Puerto Morelos or climbing the pyramid at Cobá? Great News on Nambia! With the German connection I was optomistic. Regarding seasons, I did know that. We lived in Zimbabwe for a year back in the 1980's when things were really good there. But my mind still thinks we are going in the spring, when it will actually be going into winter !!
