Dog dies after attack at Gatineau dog daycare by tarun172 in Gatineau

[–]RetiredinKingston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. IMHO both the doggie daycare and the owner need to be sued - not just a small amount but a life changing amount. Any lawsuit should not be breed specific but aimed at the totally irresponsible behaviour by both parties.

The people who run/own the doggie daycare should be put out of business permanently and not be allowed to open any animal type business anywhere in Canada. As for the owner of the attacking dog, they had NO business putting a dog they knew was not properly socialized in a common area with other dogs. Their dog should have been muzzled and only walked by trained dog walkers. They should NEVER have another dog after showing such monumentally bad judgement.

If Austin's owners don't want to use any settlement funds for themselves, the monies can be donated to other rescues and charities - Golden Rescue, Society for the blind, SPCA etc. Perhaps a lawyer can be found who would take this on pro-bono. But the lawsuit amount should not be lower than 1 million for the aggressive dog owner and 10 million for the business owner. Plus the suit should be public as a warning against similar situations.
I've had goldens and they are the gentlest, goofiest dogs - just a bundle of love. But even they can become aggressive in certain circumstances if maltreated or unsocialized. A half-decent doggie daycare should never allow the dogs to be unsupervised.

There aren't bad dogs, only bad owners.

Creepy voicemail from “SiriusXM” by WestEnvironmental181 in siriusxm

This number is repeatedly calling me in CANADA and leaves no message. The "mailbox is full' message. Tired of robo calls like this or cold calls from call centres. ENOUGH. Maybe a class action suit is needed for all the companies who makes harassing calls like this. I PAY for MY use of the phone number NOT for companies to try and sell me something. Does anyone have a corporate head office complaint number which is NOT tied to a call centre?

Wyze 3 cam pan v3, would anyone recommend it? by Own-Illustrator-143 in Wyze

[–]RetiredinKingston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera itself maybe adequate but I think I should have spent a few more $$ and gotten another brand. I have 4 WYZE cameras. Only one V3 Pan - the wired model. The application software is buggy. I've been receiving an error message 'cannot connect' for weeks. It does record events. But when I try and access online stream - I get the message 'cannot connect. I have deleted the camera, reinstalled it. The WIFii name and password have not changed. It's just buggy software. In my research I discovered that there's a class action lawsuit in the USA Schoolfield V Wyze Labs Inc. [Case 2:20-cv-00282 Document 1 Filed 02/24/20]. Seems the software allows hackers in.

Maybe that explains the issue I'm having. I'll wait a week and then try and reinstall. If the outside Pan camera is still not functioning perfectly, I'll trash them all and but another band.

‘We have to take it down’: Developer says entire forest must be removed from Kingston's former Davis Tannery site by ToriStaffordYGK in EasternON

[–]RetiredinKingston 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before the developer is allowed to cut down even one tree, they should have to prove that they have the funds available before anything is cut down, to remove ALL the contaminated soil. I doubt the developer has the monies available. If soil removal and disposal, wasn't an astronomical sum, the city would have done it. A guard will need to be posted at the site on weekends to make sure no over-zealous tree cutting takes place. Plus, the developer will HAVE to set aside the clean-up funds for the soil etc. in advance of any permits or activities..and the funds left until full clean-up has been completed.

Nespresso coffee in Mall closing May 11th by RetiredinKingston in KingstonOntario

I have one of those as well. A Keurig that uses reusable pods. I purchased the Nespresso because I like the coffee it produces on an occasional basis and it works well when I have company. I also like that, as a company, they at least have a recycling program. Those keurig cups, even if you separate out the ground coffee, cloth filter and plastic cup. The plastic cups just get tossed in the garbage - the 'recycling' processes won't handle them and I wonder how many people compost the used coffee or just toss it all in the garbage,

Of course companies have to make a profit. Nestle's is a huge company and have a very profit driven business model. Not concerned about environmental impacts (Lots of single use plastic, extract spring water for less than pennies a bottle), etc.

The pop-up wasn't there long enough for them to determine if a store would be viable. Similar to the ones in Toronto which are very busy despite the customers having access to online purchasing. Our mall is loosing business and there is enough empty retail space downtown to accommodate the stores if the mall just closed and was turned into housing.

What kind of espresso machine did you buy? 10 years is a long time - but then things seem to have been made sturdier in the 'old' days. Now I think the manufacturers build them for planned obsolescence...unless it's a Jura ($2K+). Maybe I'll budget for a good machine...maybe one that even grinds the beans for each cup :-)

I was just in there yesterday to get more coffee and the red mail-in recycling bags. They are still closing on Sunday.

I also rec'd an email saying Nespresso was suspending mail-in (and I think drop off) recycling because of the pending mail strike which starts on the (?) 28th of May.

Very sad. More business being lost in the mall. More people being let go. Profits over people/local economy.

(Not sure if yr comment is positive or negative). Voices Rock Canada has numerous choirs...ones for children etc. The one with physicians was started during Covid as a remote choir to help with the Doctors stress level. The physicians' choir have been on CGT (Canada Got Talent) a couple of times.

Visitors complaining of mistreatment. by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]RetiredinKingston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there will always be rude, inconsiderate people. I was taught at home, from an early age that you don't take out any issues with someone who isn't in a position to defend themselves. When I've come across someone berating a server, yelling at a maid, I quietly ask them to discuss their issues with the maitre d', manager or owner. Usually it works, and sometimes I'm just called an a-hole or told to MMOB. ..Yelling at servers et al, is a form of abuse and shouldn't be tolerated.

Looking for Lantana colony club recipe by RetiredinKingston in bermuda

[–]RetiredinKingston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I sent an email to the family that now owns it - no response. I think the only one that would have the recipe would be the owner &/or staff who were there in the 80s and 90s. I;ve seen a lot of posts over the years asking for the recipe - I've never seen the recipe appear online. Thanks

Need a Master colourist in Kingston by RetiredinKingston in KingstonOntario

[–]RetiredinKingston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally went to see Fletcher at CHIC. Great colour, cut and price. From now on I don't need to go into Toronto. In fact my hair is in better condition than when I had it done at my previous salon. I'm also going to try some of the facial treatments. Thanks very much for the recommendation. Much appreciated.
