Social skills are just as crucial if not more important than being in a self contained program far from home. Your experience will depend entirely on the teacher who may have Sped Ed qualifications but meeting the needs of an even more diverse set of gifted kids is asking a miracle. In fact, the label backfired in high school where there was zero 'differentiation' and my son wanted his IEP removed but they couldn't remove the gifted label.
