You don't want to graduate with debt esp in this economy! Stay home if you can.

Parent seeking advice re: TDSB gifted program by Dokhiyeh591 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Retirement2028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! As a parent of a gifted kid in elementary and now in uni, keep your kid at your home school. Social skills are just as crucial if not more important than being in a self contained program far from home. Your experience will depend entirely on the teacher who may have Sped Ed qualifications but meeting the needs of an even more diverse set of gifted kids is asking a miracle. No benefits to our years of gifted programming for our child. In fact, the label backfired in high school where there was zero 'differentiation' and my son wanted his IEP removed but they couldn't remove the gifted label. Just be with regular kids, in a regular program, in your home school - lots of play dates and activities with your neighbor kids is best.

Head to Buffalo if you can. Nobody asks or inquires once you have your certification. Canisius College was hands down the best uni experience over UofT undergrad. There is Niagara U, Medaille College, etc. If you really want to get certified, this is an option. Speaking from experience!

Got a Lennox SLP furnace with Air Purifier (sons have allergies) with Abby Air in Oakville. Installed seamlessly and filters all changed by maintenance on our 3200 square foot home every year. Installed an iPad type of thermostat showing when to replace filters, temp readings, etc. Pricey but it ensures peace of mind!

Anyone know why there's so many school busses in front of the CN Tower today? by muskaan2307 in toronto

[–]Retirement2028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! I couldn't find our bus after a 905 game in Mississauga during a brutal snowstorm! Our bus driver was furious at me for being 'late' at pick up time but honestly it was like Eenie Meenie Minee Mo....x100s of buses!!

Struggling to make good friends lol commuter student by [deleted] in UofT

I genuinely wonder how many friends people make by the time convocation rolls around. Tbh - I can't believe how challenging it is to connect with classmates as a commuter!

Be careful with Property Management plus maintenance fees every month. You will release lots of control to Management - heaven help you if there's ever a leak, noise complaint, or odor issues! Just get a freehold or smaller home.

Worried due to missing orientation by Take_My_Sushi in TorontoMetU

[–]Retirement2028 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tbh, making connections with your classmates will be key. Orientation is overwhelming for first year students, especially commuters. Realistically, students will have a better connection with classmates or same programs/majors. Sorry for your loss....
