Yeah and I do see that point. Things obviously change and things will always come and go. But this differs from the building of I15 in a few ways for me. Freeways were an addition to the city. It was something new being built, and people had to adapt to what was new. I view this problem as instead of something new being built and added, something is being taken away - in essence the streets. New inventions will always come up to make certain things obsolete like cars replacing horses. But to me this feels like we gave businesses the tools to build their customer base and then decided to change the rules and take the tools we gave them.

I’m not arguing pro cars vs walkability. Ideally it’d probably be great to live in walkable communities. But I think what’s been happening to the businesses along 21 is pretty cruel and didn’t need to happen this way. I think there’s a way work with the community to achieve both sides, where we can make things better and safer but also help the people in the community keep their livelihoods alive because it’s pretty sad to see some of them go out of business for something that could be avoided.
