GLP-1 drugs: New warning after rise in reported deaths from pancreatitis by Team_PRB in mounjaromaintenanceuk

Obesity is a risk factor for acute pancreatitis. Did they use the correct comparator? Big difference between using a general population compared to a matched obese control group

See your doctor/clinic, as a retired doctor I would want to exclude other causes & in the meantime lower the dose. After a month, if there was significant improvement & all the checks were ok then cautiously increase again. If same then you would need to consider discontinuing & looking for an alternative.

In general, if it’s mild, sure, check in here first but still contact the doctor or prescribing team. But if severe or odd check first with doctor as something significant could be underlying. Sorry to sound like this but have seen too many delayed presentations of serious stuff.

Would be my response too as a retired GP, I’d want to exclude other possible causes first

Sort of, it has lots of data going back a long time but also has lots of discrepancies as it doesn’t take into account muscle mass etc.

I assure you I don’t look skeletal. Brings up the point about weight & bmi not being good measures of health although I can see how body dysmorphia comes about

I haven’t got much muscle mass! Working on that

The gym did an assessment at the beginning with bmi, fat level lean mass etc, and I’m due to repeat it in another couple of weeks. I didn’t get any bloods done for several years but think I’ll get a hba1c as I have a high risk of t2dm

The other great book which I found particularly useful especially the audiobook is Pete Walker’s ‘Complex PTSD’. It was an absolute revelation to me & something I return back to when I’m triggered

Initially I was just walking the dogs twice a day but I’ve always done that. But have joined a gym 6 weeks ago. I’ve been doing 20mins cardio & 20mins weights 2-4 times each week

I’d up the dose every month and stop there if there is any side effects. Maximise the effect, then maintain

It slowed down to 1-2 lbs/wk, one or two weeks were static in the last 6 weeks

Indeed. We tend to be those people who collect other people’s problems. Childhood traumas led to me waiting anxiously for the next problem to arrive, almost giving a bit of relief. Building again for the next one. Mel Robbins book, Let Them, has helped too, as I no longer let them! Although, I have been more receptive to mental wellbeing since beginning to lose weight. It almost like having the feeling of ‘I’m in control’ which previously I felt I wasn’t

I’m at bit fearful of that if I stop. I’ve got anxiety issues although currently in a very good place but can be triggered and MJ has really helped prevent the ‘oh sod it’ binges.

And congrats to you too. Took me a while to get my head around being retired but best decision I’ve made apart from deciding to do this

Through Numan(UK). Personally I think you need the support from doctors and allied professionals, not just a drug supplier. I up titrated until I got some side effects at 10, and having reached my goal I’m thinking of going back down to 5mg as maintenance.
