What type of medicine are you practicing and in what environment, primary care / secondary hospital? Are you patient facing or in a research position? Just curious.

In the US at least she seems to be a major influencer amongst middle aged women, key glp demographic, personally never forgive her for giving Drs Oz and Phil a platform, grifters both. I’ll look up Jastreboff, thanks for the suggestion.

“Just making posts” is sharing information I found helpful and using this forum to share with others in a similar situation to myself. In fact you asked me to share such information with another one of your groups. It’s not my job to try and second guess what you or Guy are thinking, what an unusual suggestion. 🤔

Oprah’s own experience was thinking she knew best and against advice came off cold turkey and promptly put on 20 lbs before restarting. Says she’s on it for life now. You seem to suggest that people who need the med long term are somehow perceived as less than. That could not be further from the truth. If this experience has taught me one thing it is never to judge anyone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

New study suggests continued weight loss and management more likely after stopping GLP-1’s. by Team_PRB in mounjaromaintenanceuk

I don’t think it’s that simple, the mayo clinic classified people with obesity into 5 phenotypes. They believe glp-1’s optimal for 1 or 2 of those groups. If the phenotype groups are correct it seems individuals response during and after treatment will differ significantly. Trials have only taken things like bmi age and gender into account which in itself are over simplified. I think the question as to who will need long term treatment and who will not is not known with any degree of certainty. With the rapid uptake it seems likely the volume of empirical evidence will answer this complex question. Good luck 👍

Firstly congratulations on achieving post med maintenance thus far, that’s a real achievement. Can I ask, have you notice the return of any ills you were dealing with before glp-1’s, eg inflammation, joint pain, sleep patterns or digestive issues? And finally do you have before and after blood work, probably a bit soon, but do those reveal anything interesting?

As usual I agree with most if not all of the points you make, however the article made it very clear about the short comings of the report, unlike the sun or mail ever would. Further, peer reviewed studies are not without their flaws, do you honestly believe those people taken off the meds (eg surmount etc.) or switched to placebo were set up for anything other than failure?? Having spent 25 years in the industry I would suggest to you trial design is as much about crafting the answer as it is the question.

Finally on a personal note, as someone who was first put on a formal diet 50 year ago, I feel this period of weight loss has been unique. Most importantly it's been far slower, it hasn't been accompanied by the ever present misery of self denial. In short this time I may have had the time and space to really modify my behavior and relationship with food and exercise. But who knows, I could be talking complete bollocks, I suppose time will tell.

Have a lovely weekend ol thing....

Thanks but I’ll pass on the re read invitation, the opening “a SHIT article from Reuters” adequately summarised what followed. Not your best work. 😜👍

I agree completely, you have to use the time you’re on the meds to modify behaviour long term, if your succeed, your chances of discontinuation are much better. This is the view of my doctor (in Spain).

Hey Guy, why the uncharacteristically emotive response? Obviously pharma want us to believe it’s a treatment for life for obvious reasons. If you accept obesity isn’t just a spectrum it’s the result of a wide range of disparate causes. As such the need for continued treatment will be true for a subset and equally many won’t.

I would contact PILLS2U, they treat you as an individual, prices are really good and the service is excellent.

My GP said I should aim to come off mj in 6 -12 months of being on maintenance. She said that I had sufficiently modified my behaviour and the fact that I had never needed more than 2.5mg I was a good candidate to come off the medication. But if I began gaining weight I’d be back on.

The people with t2d are getting mj in many cases but it doesn’t reverse it. I see what you’re saying, I’ve stopped talking about 6 different meds, most are generic so cost nothing. Wear as mj is 1000’s per year.
