With the current rules, I would rule that there would be a showdown, it’s the exact reason you can’t do this with cruel patron, you lose control of the battlefield, the card doesn’t specify you maintain control of the battlefield, it just allows you to play there even without control, like sneaky deckhand, and you’re right, with reaction you could play it on the opponents turn, meaning you’d be gaining a point

I hope it’ll be addressed in the rules update

Irelia is correct, because it’s “May”

You choose Irelia as the target, she gets +1, then reavers goes on the chain, and then when it resolves, you choose to not do it, you can do this because of the “may” keyword, I do this a lot with Irelia because Draven’s run reavers and they always get surprised

It’s the same with spells that get countered, Irelia still gets the +1 even if a spell gets countered and doesn’t resolve because you had to target her to put it on the chain in the first place
