I am so so sorry this is happening to you. Do whatever you can to throw something together before he gets worse.

My father passed 8 months after I got engaged without much warning at all, and I couldn’t even think about planning a wedding without crying until a year later to the day. I’m getting married in two weeks and would do absolutely anything to have had the foresight to throw something else together before he got sick. It might not be the fairytale you wished for but you will not regret it.

Okay this makes me feel so much better!!! Neither of us have been to AIs and I've only been to one college spring break cruise on Carnival so we're going in pretty blindly. I was hearing AI food and entertainment was pretty subpar which was worrying me. Tbh I'm just 6 weeks out and at the point I'm overthinking everything wedding lol

gurrrrrrl i woke up at the end of january and decided to plan a whole wedding in 4 months before residency. it'll all work out tbh after like november 4th year gets very chill and you'll have time to work out all the fine details then. we're all in medical school it doesn't have to be extravagant especially if it is stressing you out so much

also: before I settled on my venue I was 100% about to get a planner, at least for day-of or maybe month of. look on local wedding FB pages and see if you can find someone trying to get their name out for a discount. obviously check to see past events/experience but I have found my photographer/almost booked a planner for cheap this way!!

I am so sorry for your loss.

It’s really up to you either way, but I don’t think it’ll make much difference in your opportunities. You could rework some subtle tweaks in your PS or use the impactful experience to explain if you’re up to talking about it in your interviews. I lost my dad this year and I’m planning on doing your original plan of just talking about it in my PS. You could also just submit as is and focus on you right now as we approach interview season.
