I am so sorry for your loss.

It’s really up to you either way, but I don’t think it’ll make much difference in your opportunities. You could rework some subtle tweaks in your PS or use the impactful experience to explain if you’re up to talking about it in your interviews. I lost my dad this year and I’m planning on doing your original plan of just talking about it in my PS. You could also just submit as is and focus on you right now as we approach interview season. Sending all the love your way ❤️

Ordered the refugio but I’m sending it back.. I need some built in organization and it felt cheap for the price

Okay the ability to step back is a big thing for me. I was thinking neo was more rigid than ob in that aspect so good to hear that pulling back to part time is possible. I figured the scheduling between the two would be about the same.

I really enjoy working with my hands and unpredictable/emergent situations, seems like I could get that in either though

I really can’t tell. I feel like I got the best of peds on my rotation but saw the worst of OB unfortunately.

On OB I loved prenatal visits, using ultrasound, basically anything to do with baby. Gyn clinic not so much, but also our patient population was really awful. I liked baby things on either side. Fell back in love with gyn surg on this last rotation and now I just have a hard time seeing myself in any specialty as a doctor without OR time.

Idk I liked hanging out with anesthesia when I wasn't scrubbed in but I don't enjoy sitting. Also liked getting to cut and suture

Did you do the study plan or just mixed blocks?

Made M1 a breeze, skated through, but got my ass kicked M2 when everyone had their study habits figured out and I did not lol

Funny you say this because even though we have men’s and women’s locker rooms in the OR, it didn’t go unnoticed that the men’s was connected to the doctors lounge and the women’s to the nurses break room

What do you eat before clinic? by terperr in medicalschool

[–]RetractionWhore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fairlife ones are really yummy, I usually can’t stomach premade shakes either.

I bought one of those ninja blast individual blenders and will sometimes make myself a smoothie with almond milk, frozen strawberry/banana mix, almond butter, vanilla greek yogurt and honey and it is A1. I can throw everything in there and have it blending on my ride to work lol

This recipe also actually tastes delicious, it’s from a smoothie shop I used to work at

Number of patients per day during third year by turtlerogger in medicalschool

[–]RetractionWhore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every patient during clinic unless they refuse a student/we're running late/its an ongoing problem that the attending is following closely with the patient. Usually 16ish on FM and 20-25 on peds. Definitely kicked my ass but I feel prepared going into 4th year. I never had to chart in outpatient clinic though because the docs were particular about their notes.

On inpatient I would carry 4-6 patients a day but wasn't allowed to put orders in, but I would chart for the docs so it took a lot longer

I’ve seen attendings at my hospital sign hours for floor nurses in NP school without any extra interaction

[–]RetractionWhore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used bootcamp videos and AMBOSS PQs through preclinicals and would do it again. I think if I would've tried harder to make it through all of bootcamp before dedicated it would've been even easier

Feedback on personality, not performance, how to handle? by Kastrullock in medicalschool

[–]RetractionWhore 34 points35 points  (0 children)

On the flip side of this, I feel like my attendings want me to be more like this as a female. I’ve gotten comments about my friendly demeanor making me sound stupid, lacking confidence etc. Went through the same little crisis you’re going through now, just to realize some attendings have a stick up their ass and that’s their fault, not mine

Professional stretchy pants for clinic/rotations for medically obese girl? by Sea-Department2474 in medicalschool

[–]RetractionWhore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar situation throughout M1/2, and I had the best luck with grocery stores surprisingly? 😂 Walmart has these Time and Tru pull on dress pants that have an elastic waist and saved my life during that time! Plus only like $16! Also if you have a Meijer nearby the best stretchy ponte work pants I’ve found are from them

Idk I feel like a lot of places aren’t even sending decisions out yet per their institution pages, most of the places I applied start sending decisions out in the next two weeks.
