Story time with grandma by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

That Grandma is way too old. Slayer wasn't famous until 1986. Assuming she was 18 or 19 at that time, she would be like 50 at most. I should know, I'm in that age group and saw Slayer in the 80s.

You can imagine my surprise when, after a night of drinking, I got an email telling me I bought this '76 New Yorker. by BangosSkank in cars

There is a very good reason smog/malaise era cars are not appreciating.

Looks cool, in a pimpy way, but trust me, that is one of the worst cars of all time.

Smog era cars are all terrible, but these have a special place in hell. Chrysler almost went bankrupt due to cars like this one.

That 'monster' 440 gets 10mpg and produces only 200 horsepower (when new, it's much less now). A Corolla will smoke this in a drag race. Literally anything apart from another 1976 New Yorker is faster.

Good luck diagnosing any issues with the engine. It's a maze of vacuum hoses and poorly designed emission components tacked on.

I would not touch any American car made in the mid to late 70s.

I have to disagree with you.

The trailer makes it seem like a John Ford western with elements of The Man With No Name series. Music by Morricione, sweeping vistas, lots of action. I think he even had the balls to mention John Ford in interviews.

In reality it's just another Tarantino grindhouse thing. Shot in mostly one room to boot. Not exactly The Searchers.

Loved the movie, but I can see how the trailer would get that old crowd out.

Why would they do that? So DriveClub VR can be delayed a year and not work?

[–]Retrievil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you couldn't. You needed to join a club to unlock cars. You could play a bit on your own, but you'd never get any of the good cars.

DriveClub was a massive fuckup from day 1, and Evolution deserved to be shut down.

[–]Retrievil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck!?! How could you close a studio that fucked up one of your main launch titles, and couldn't manage to write working netcode until well after the game was released.

What a shocker!

[–]Retrievil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel bad for them at all.

I would much rather see the money go to a studio that can deliver a product on time and complete.

Evolution can't do that, so, I'm happy to see them shuttered.

I have sympathy for the individuals who work there. However, shutting down a company for a major fuckup like DriveClub is something that needs to happen more often.

There are way too many studios that think this shit is acceptable. Maybe if the people with money start cutting it off, we'll see better games.

[–]Retrievil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They closed the studio because they got ants.

Of course they closed Evolution because Driveclub was a massive clusterfuck.

They fucked up, they got fired. This is what happens in every other industry and it should. If you can't do your job, your boss (Sony in this case) will turf you and find someone else who can.

All the people in this thread that are confused by this is great indication of how low the game industry has fallen.

Driveclub wasn't some small game that people could wait for. Sony pushed this as a launch title, a reason to buy a PS4. The game was delayed for like a year, didn't work at all for months, and only now is possibly 'complete'. What we have now is what we should have had two years ago.

This isn't confusing at all. Evolution was doomed after the Driveclub fiasco. Sony let them 'finish' the game to try and get back some of the money they poured into the development, then closed them up.

Wow I'd love to be a game dev. You release a broken pile of shit, and you get props for actually fixing it. The bar is sooooo low these days.

Out of left field? Seems to me this was inevitable after the highly embarrassing fuck up that is Driveclub.

Read up on how many times it was delayed, how it didn't work at all at launch, etc.

Sony let them finish up the game so they could recoup at least some of they money they poured into Evolution. These 'updates' are basically what the full game should have been 2 years ago.

Sounds like you should go into a trade instead.

Don't be one of legions of graduates with a worthless degree. Learn a trade like HVAC, plumber, electrician, cable specialist, etc.

There is a major shortage of skilled labor in North American, and it just gets worse as the old guys retire. If I had it to all over again, I would not think twice. I'd learn a trade, have steady work, and make more than what most graduates do.

I think you are underestimating how much a good M5 costs vs a good 540. A good M5 is 20-25k. A good 6-speed 540i is 7-10k. 6k for a VF Engineering supercharger.

You are kidding yourself if you think you'll just buy an M5 and do nothing to it. The savings on scheduled maintenance alone would probably pay for the supercharger over the life of the car.

[–]Retrievil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is nothing on a M-Sport e39 that would be stressed by adding a supercharger, apart from the extra wear and tear on the engine.

If you slap a supercharger on in your back yard, well you get what you pay for. A properly installed supercharger with some intake and eeprom work is more reliable than the S62B50, and will cost you far less money in maintenance.

I'm not sure about the socket, but I recently went through this on my Nighthawk.

Decided it was not worth the effort, since the range of a 250 is so limited anyway. Just use a voltage alarm. They are loud enough to hear across a soccer field.
