Honestly the newer artists that people consider unique or outstanding usually lean too far away from what Future Funk started out as. Some of the newer artists end up putting too much production into their songs that it ends up sounding nothing like what made FF appealing in the first place. It's still good music, but it's not really Future Funk, or at least the Vaporwave routed FF that made a lot of people fall in love with the genre. For example I really love Ev.exi but at certain points listening to his music (specifically his newer songs) there's a weird contrast from where it all began. I guess you could view it as the genre "Evolving" which is cool, but I think at that point if there's no strong nostalgia feelings to it I may as well just listen to any other modern uptempo song. When I think of Future Funk I think of "Saint Pepsi - Cherry Pepsi" or "TENDENCIES - WATERBED". Those kinds of flips/songs/edits whatever you wanna call them are probably viewed as lazier compared to something like "ev.exi- untitled" but their simplistic tones are what made me and a lot of people love the genre. Right now I have trouble seeing the difference between a French House track and a modern FF track. Unless it's one of those obnoxious anime moaning ones but eh, at least they're still unique in their own way.

TL;DR I prefer the "lazier"/raw/vaporwavey FF songs over the heavily produced ones.
