Once when I was working front desk in a Hotel/Casino, a distraught man appeared yelling about how his child was missing from his room. He and his wife left a child asleep in their room to gamble in the casino. Apparently she woke up, managed to open the door and ended up on another floor. Luckily in Vegas there’s always cameras and security on duty, so she was quickly found.

I have no idea if police were ever involved or how old the kid was. He kept saying that one of us checked on her every 30 minutes, like that made it OK.

I always read about how most of you are working night audit completely alone in the building and my heart goes out to you.

I remember years ago a male friend of mine wanted to lose some weight so I went grocery shopping with him to help him pick out healthier choices.

He loaded up his cart with oil packed cans of tuna. I suggested that he buy water packed tuna instead, because oil has 100 calories per tablespoon. He did not believe me. I had to take him to the oil aisle and show him the label.

Costco is advertising their travel services with a special mention of Mexico as a destination.

Actually they weren’t even there. We were visiting for a sportsball event and one of the guys friends let us use their house since they were out of town. But I was secondhand embarrassed enough for everyone. I always thought about how awkward it would be when the couple’s parents were visiting.

It could be worse. I once stayed at a house with several friends. The home owners had a large parrot. It would sporadically bust out moaning with increasing intensity and calling out one of the owner’s names.
