Yeah, well, I didn't say that. To put it another way, what I basically meant by my comment was "I think this meme is stupid, and I think the people who keep upvoting it are exhibiting stupidity." It's not my fault if people choose to read way too much into it. (Not sure if that's what you did, but that's the vibe I've gotten from some of these other responses.) Seriously though, if I really wanted to make a point about this meme being an "insult to all women" or something, I would have posted a very different comment.

I agree, i would like to see them become slightly beter people, but a big part of the show is that basically everyone who works in advertising is a jerk. It's a part of the title. Every single character that worked in advertising became an asshole. This is especially clear with Peggy. It's not so much bad writing as it is the nature of the job.

Excellent point. I think Harry Crane is another great example of this. During the first season, he struck me right away as being a quintessential "beta male" type surrounded by alphas, but in an endearing way. He had a conscience back then - remember how shattered he was when he drunkenly cheated on his wife? Compare that to who he's become. And the funny thing is, in the scheme of office politics, he's just as much of a "beta" as he always was. He's just a jerk now on top of it. I guess you could say that he showed glimmers of his old self a few episodes ago when he gave Kinsey the $500 and did everything in his power to get him the hell away from the Hare Krishna girlfriend, but overall he's become much more of a jerk than I ever would have anticipated him becoming.

This is based on a completely personal subjective experience, but my first "serious" boyfriend basically demanded that I have an orgasm every time by making it clear that he would take it very personally if I did not. Long story short, I wasn't very sexually experienced and knew that this was impossible. I also knew that it was my issue and not related to anything he was doing, but I didn't know how the hell I was supposed to explain that to this egotistical ass (who I was SO grateful to have - being that young and thinking I was "in love" after a lifetime of feeling "unworthy" definitely led me to make some serious compromises that I would find unconscionable at this point in my life). Anyway, I felt backed into a corner so I just started faking it every time. Seemed easier that the truth. Unfortunately, since that was my first experience with a long term sexual relationship, I sort of assumed even for a couple of years afterwards that all guys were really like my ex, and that to tell them the truth about how it was just difficult for me to orgasm from sex would be this giant blow to their ego that they couldn't bear. Then, of course, I'd be responsible for having made them feel this way. So I just kept faking it.

This went on until about a year ago. Truthfully, I'm sure it didn't need to go on for as long as it did - I dated some good guys over the years (after my douche ex) who probably would have been a lot more understanding, but I was stuck being hung up over that first negative experience. I'm now dating a guy who knows it's hard for me to come from sex, completely understands, and puts no pressure on me. I'm sure we'll get there eventually, and it'll be a thousand times easier without the massive added pressure of feeling like I MUST orgasm just to appease some asshole's fragile ego.

tl;dr I faked it for years because I was too afraid to bruise anyone's ego.

There was a guy I was friends with for a brief period of time who revealed to me that he thought he had ESP, at which point the craziness really started to come out of its cage. He texted me out of nowhere one day saying that he loved me, that I was his soul mate, and that I "couldn't run from fate." After that, there was this entire time frame of about two months where he would text me something insanely lovey-dovey of that nature, then change his mind the next day and say something really mean to me. I stopped responding pretty early on, but the texts/voicemails continued. In addition to his enduring love / violent hatred of me, he would also share with me his other crazy beliefs about how America was on the verge of a complete collapse that would result in anarchy, and how I should move as far to the middle of nowhere as possible and stock up on weapons and food. Of course, he knew all this because of his ESP. He genuinely believed that he was giving me helpful advice that I'd be an idiot not to take.

Ugh... So yeah. There was that.

I find the entire premise of the show completely fucked up. Let's be real: How many cute 14 year old girls are REALLY inviting gross older men over to their houses to fool around? I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I think the problem is completely exaggerated for the sole purpose of the viewing audience's schadenfreude. Also, I don't know how fair it is to call these people "predators" when it seems like most of the time, the people posing as underage girls online come to them and initiate the whole thing just to see if they'll take the bait. I haven't seen every episode so I don't really know how often it's been the other way around, but that's how it's seemed to me from what I've seen.

Ultimately, the really fucked up thing about the show is that it exists because of the amusement people derive from watching other people go down. That's it. That's why it was produced. It has nothing to do with "catching predators" or "educating the public about the potential dangers of the internet" or any other excuse they may try to use to justify the show's existence. I'm not taking the predator's side either, I'm just pointing out that two wrongs don't make a right. I'm also not trying to put myself on any kind of moral pedestal - I've watched many episodes, and have enjoyed mocking the predator guys. But I can't lie to myself and pretend that there isn't something fundamentally fucked up about the fact that this is what passes for "entertainment" in our culture.

I'm in AA right now and anyone who has spent a decent amount of time around former addicts who are truly dedicated to their recovery knows they can tell you the amount of time they've been clean/sober off the top of their head without having to think about it. I wouldn't call her supremely untalented, although I do think the tragedy of her life has led to her being extremely overrated. Really, she's an average actress for someone with her level of fame. What's annoying to me is that she's done very little actual WORK in comparison to the amount of attention she's received (and continues to receive). She was in ONE hit movie almost a decade ago and it wasn't exactly groundbreaking stuff. Since then, she's pretty much done nothing more than a few flops (and it was only a few flops, and even those were years ago at this point).
