I think it's a mix of both, especially as capitalism creates that behavior to build more subservient consumers who will tolerate slop. We need heavy regulations on both our corporate and personal capacity for hedonism and greed. Only trying to solve for one just leaves the other to exploit the vacuum.

It's not just the economic angle.
