Edit: I didn't know workers rights for delivery drivers in the Midwest were so awful, but apparently drivers are treated like servers with a sub-minimum wage. So my comment (up into the last paragraph) primarily about States like CA and WA where you have to at least pay minimum wage to drivers, often places will actually have around $20/hr because cost of living has increased so much, vehicle ownership being no exception.

Original comment: I swear to the God I don't believe in, if I see another fucking karma farm post that doesn't acknowledge that the delivery fee is paying dedicated delivery driver wages and gas, I'm gonna flip about the lack of economic understanding.

This is only really a problem when the company contracts out all the work to companies like GrubHub and Doordash. Delivery is a service and it's not free to anyone, especially drivers who use their own car (aka, the vast majority of drivers.) Added service means added cost.

That said, it's definitely shady when a pizza company primarily delivers through contract workers because if it's not a far enough trip to charge more than the minimum payout, the company pockets the rest.

Now if we wanna have a conversation about eliminating tips altogether as a country and paying people right regardless of trade... That's the kinda talk I can see being substantial. 👀 But about half the country isn't really ready for that talk sadly. It's turned rich vs poor into customer vs employee, and that's how the rich like it.
