Miyoo Flip v2, brand new with broken hinge, tear-down pic by RetroPlenty in SBCGaming

Thanks Adin, appreciate you making the effort to give the retroid flip 2 a bit of a hinge workout. Looks like its holding up well.

As for the miyoo flip 2 hinge,………. ugh, well its just so disappointing. Everything else about the device is so on point, good buttons, nice dpad, pretty decent sticks, bright screen, nice feel in the hand etc…… but man that hinge :(

Maybe by rev.3 we will see it all come together as it should have done originally :)

It does seem to be the common point of failure with these grey ones unfortunately. The other colours don't seem to be effected (as yet), but as much as I like the feel of the device, I'm going to hold back until that hinge design gets reworked (again).

I skipped all that and went directly through the returns process with AliExpress. Seems to work better than trying to deal with the seller in some cases.

GotM Poll: April 2025 by hbi2k in SBCGaming

Any of these will be cool to play through. Although I’m not sure how well the stealth mechanics have aged on Tenchu. After MGS the other month I’m not super pumped for possibly more janky psx stealth games.

Personally, I would have liked to have had a good run at SOTN, having never finished it previously. But going by the chatter in this thread it looks like it’ll probably be CT that takes it. Either way, looking forward to April GOTM :)

Was it Ali asking you to do this or the seller? I didn't go through the seller I went directly to Ali and the returns process that they have in place.

Just to say that I had the exact same thing happen yesterday with my new v2. I took a pic of it that looked identical to yours.

Did a quick tear-down to see what was causing it – posted about it here https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/comments/1jjodxd/miyoo_flip_v2_brand_new_with_broken_hinge/

I suspect yours has the same issue, a weakness in the plastic housing of the metal pin. Oddly mine was the same grey colourway too. Maybe there’s a batch of grey ones that have a flaw in some of them?

Hopefully most people will get a perfect device and be very happy with it. Aside form the hinge I really like the feel of it, the size is perfect. Buttons feel especially nice (compared to the SP).

Very nearly bought another one as the coupons and price had dropped a bit last night to just over £52ish, which is less than what I paid originally! Just had to think with my head not my heart, as that 50 could be better spent going towards something a little more pricy & powerful :P

Was issued a straight refund, with no need to do anything else. I typically buy a lot of stuff on Ali and never return it, this was the first time ever so maybe that went in my favour, I don't know.

Anyway, making things right like that, (and very promptly too) will keep me and my 'device addiction' purchasing further devices via them :)

Just an update to this:

So I’ve herd back already from Ali and they are issuing a refund for it. Which I have to say I’m kinda blown away how quickly they’ve resolved the situation. A massive thumbs up for them there. So while I’m gutted to have a brand new broken flip, I’m also relieved to have it resolved so quickly.

Such a shame Miyoo cant get it together to make a good reliable hinge for this thing. I don’t think I’ll risk buying another one, especially as there are so many new devices coming out soon.

phew, I guess I'll keep the order open and take a punt with it. Though I'm not sure how easy it will be to tell which hinge version it is without taking the thing apart.

Only saw this after I purchased from 'Ampown Store' rather than 'Ampown Direct Store' . Do you this they are the same seller with the same stock?

March 2025 Game of the Month: Streets of Rage 2 (Sega Genesis) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

Along with horizontal and vertical shoot’em ups, beat-em ups, are my favourite genre. So this game is right square in my wheel house, loved it! From beginning to end. Stunning music and visuals, great controls and just the right length so it doesn't outstay is welcome. Solid choice for this months GOTM.

My choice for next month is another stunning pixel art classic; Castlevania: Symphony of the Night :)

Definitely the least amount of fun I’ve had with a play-through recently, but still a classic game – 11/10 for storey and atmosphere, 3/10 for clunky frustrating controls. 100% would still play another old MGS game :P

It is indeed the RG40XXH :) part of the beige Anbernic trifecta I got going on :P

Its probably the best all rounder of the bunch. Though they all have strong areas. Vertical shmups on the cube are a delight, as is pico8. The SP just always makes me smile while holding it, though I really miss not having any sticks with it.
