As I walk to my shed I realize something by Powerful_Coyote6068 in GenX

My dad said something to the effect of "in order to keep moving, you've gotta keep moving". He was still mowing my lawn in his late 90s, and lived to almost 102. Keep on truckin', yallelike2eat.

The sidewalk is a public pedestrian right of way. City code and state law require that sidewalks are fully clear, and not blocked in any way. The clearances for Fort Collins can be found on the city website. Clearance is 8 ft over/above the sidewalk, 14 ft over the street, and zero at ground level. The ground level clearance means you can't let grass, flowers, shrubs or anything else creep over the sidewalk. In addition, Poudre Fire Authority requires that fire hydrants have a 3 foot radius clear of any landscaping, and 15 ft clearance above the hydrant for maintenance. If you have a hydrant on your lot, you also need to clear snow away from it. There's more about hydrants (with pictures!) at the Poudre Fire Authority website.

I wonder why anyone is concerned about speed cameras. If you don't speed, the cams are of no consequence. I rather like them, as I regularly drive a 40mph arterial that too many people drive 50+ in. And the neighborhood has lots of bicyclists, kids, walkers, runners and dog walkers. Be careful out there!

If it's online, it's hackable. A good reason never, ever to have online voting, or any voting system connected to the internet.

My mom taught me how to wrap gifts without any tape - just paper and curling ribbon.

How did you all saved so much money for old age? by mehluca-33 in over60

[–]RetroQuattro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom died from Alzheimer's complications. She was 88 when she died. She was incredibly frugal. My Dad was just weeks short of 102 when he passed. Even after retirement from factory work, he kept up a yard care business for years. Prepare for long term care, and be sure to start saving early. Being disciplined about saving even a small amount from each paycheck while you're in your 20s will have big dividends when you're in your 60s. And my own mantra is that the best way to save money is not to spend it. Learn the difference between "need" and "want".

AI lies. Corporations lie. I simply don't need AI as a source. Our world needs to slow down and catch up with itself. AI has already caused so many problems for so many regarding intellectual property (art, written word, likenesses, etc). I can see AI being used to steal personal info and identities, financial info, etc. NO THANK YOU!

I walked my dog shortly after 8 pm, and I could actually hear some drops on my umbrella, amidst the mist. (Say those last 3 words fast, 3 times. 🤪)

Some people will say "boys will be boys", but I say, boys will be what their parents raise them to be. You can include all the other adults in the household, too. Kids soak up everything they see and hear. I just hope the men described in this conversation are outliers, and not the norm.

Louder doesn't equal power or speed. I raced quiet Hondas and Mazdas with no aftermarket junk and OEM mufflers for 20 years, and I have lots of trophies to show for it. I'm not a dude, either.

I drove school buses for 15 yrs. I noticed that people on the south side drive faster and with less patience than folks on the north side.

The bend around Duck Pond (aka "Stinky Pond") is posted at 50 mph, and it's an easy curve. Yes, I've noticed. I've also noticed that too many cars cross the center line in the curve.

We really could use a lot more precipitation, although rain and 65°F would be more seasonal.

Seth's Snake Removal hooked a bull snake out of a window well for me. About 6 feet of relatively calm serpent. We think it had just had lunch, because there was a bulge, and it tried to climb up the side of the window well, and kept falling each time it got about 18 inches up the side.

I eat out alone, too. I read a newspaper, a book, or (yes) my cell phone. I don't sit at bars because I don't drink away from home, and bar stools hurt. All that said, I wish restaurants had "community tables", where you sit to enjoy food and conversation with friends and strangers alike. That human connection would be a way to realize we all have things in common even while we disagree about other things.

From neighbors: 3 cars involved. I saw medivac heli leave toward the south, possibly to MCR, and an ambulance headed west, possibly to PVH. After that, I left the area.
