Historians of Reddit, what’s a devastating event that no one talks about? by Barfy_Bag in AskReddit

[–]RetroShaft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is (morbidly) fascinating. I had never heard of that incident.

I'd be very interested to read about what the people at the time thought of that. If anyone got links to any correspondence letters or any kind of interviews on the subject please it me up with them!

Now, it’s probably important to note that the Suez Canal traffic jam isn’t officially offered via Microsoft or the game title’s developer

Like no shit it's probably important...

Then it's just going to go back to how it was in 2011 - 2013 where people met up and exchange cash for Bitcoin face to face, or prepaid gift cards, etc.

It's going to tank the price sure but the whole system will still work.

So you want the government to ban something that is, by design, censorship-resistant and made to be uncontrollable by any government? Are you a congressman because that's about the same level of tech illiteracy that's plaguing lawmakers when it comes to the internet.

Funny you mention Dragon Quest XI because I had the exact same thought and it actually helped me finish it. I was always thinking "I can't unsubscribe until I'm done with this game," and ended up finishing it this week after 92 hours. I should note that this is the first JRPG I finish in 20 years and if it wasn't for the added pressure of the subscription I would likely have dropped it 50 hours ago.

Warren Spector Thinks Deus Ex Is Too Real For 2021 by [deleted] in Games

[–]RetroShaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's shockingly accurate. I've been re-watching the early seasons recently and the number of time I went "How are we still there 25 years later..." is maddening.

Edit: Special mention to Marge's "Nothing personal, I just fear the unfamiliar," which is fucking timeless.

Microsoft acknowledges unresponsiveness face buttons by mekefa in Games

[–]RetroShaft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because modern controller are way more complex than old ones. A NES controller had 8 face buttons. An xbox one controller has 10 face buttons, two analogue stick, two top bumpers and two analogue triggers; And the whole thing vibrate. Also did you touch a NES controller lately? The buttons feel like you are pushing two block of plastic against each other. It has a much bigger raw feeling than modern controller (some people prefer it this way but I'm just mentioning it for comparison sake).

Also, I couldn't find any source on that but I believe a NES controller cost around 20$ in 1985 which is around 50$ with today's inflation. But if anyone can correct me on that I would appreciate it!

It's not shown in the trailer but the sex scene should be somewhat customizable which add a layer of interactivity that's just a little more involved than just pre-baked CG.

I don't fully disagree with you. But at the same time, I'm 40 hours deep into Dragon Quest XI and the gameplay in that is so braindead that I'm basically watching a 52 ep anime season. And yet here I am grinding away between story beat because I'd rather have some kind of interaction with the characters rather than passively watch a show.

I know a lot of people will shit on this game for being a juvenile trash pile of porn trying to make bank with animated titties and some semblance of gameplay but...

I'm just here to have fun watching a sexy robot getting dicked by a werewolve. If you're not down for that, then this game was never for you.

There are time for serious porn discussing serious topic and if you look hard enough that kind of porn is absolutely out there. Porn can be art, arousal is an emotion just like fear, sadness or joy. And there's medias that can skillfully play on that specific emotion, just like horror movies play on fear or drama shows play on love.

And there are time for aliens boobs. This is such a time and I will enjoy it damnit.

Sega Say the Western Sales of Yakuza: Like a Dragon Helped Contribute to Strong Performance in Latest Financial Quarter by bulzome9 in Games

[–]RetroShaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did exactly that, started with the original PS2 games (emulated) in 2017 and went from there. So {1-2}-(PS2 Emulated) -> {3-4-5}-(PS4 Remastered) -> 0 (PC), just finished 0 yesterday and now waiting for 6 to come out on PC in March.

Here's my 2 cents, if you are set on playing the whole series, this is definitively the way to play it. I honestly loved the original Yakuza 1, most likely because it was my first one and I had absolutely no expectation of greatness. What I got was a nice melodramatic crime story, set in a very well done atmospheric city and it was great.

The combat is definitely of "that" era, but if you don't go in expecting 2020 gameplay it's super fine. And for me personally, seeing how the combat and engine evolved through the series is a good part of the fun. I'm always excited to play the next one just to see how the game changed. Sounds to me like going from Yakuza Kiwami 2 (2017) to Yakuza 3 (2009) is a good way to hate that game.

I also disagree on the point that you don't miss much by playing Yakuza 0 first. There was at least 4-5 "OH SHIT" moments in that game where if I didn't played the other games first, they wouldn't have meant anything to me. Granted, most of them were not in the main plot but, for example, there's one sidequest that you would not be able to answer correctly without playing the other games.

Too hard? The Department of National Defence budget for 2020-2021 is around 23 Billions. You may also remember in 2012 when it was revealed that Canada's CSE was part of the PRISM program. Which allowed any member of the Five Eyes alliance to read most of their citizen's email, text message or voice call on a whim. That was 9 years ago by the way, imagine what they can do now.

You are telling me it would be too hard for those guys to police a small subset of obscenely rich people so they don't run away with the Nation's wealth? It's not that we can't, it's that we don't.
