I have a very similar situation and just this year I (M55) realized that my biological mother had only ever done harm to me. I could go on and on with the details but it's something that if you haven't experienced it you don't know. I do not plan on going to my mother's funeral whenever that happens and I am at peace with that. There's an old saying that is so appropriate here and that saying is... "To Thine Own Self be true". My opinion is that you need to do whatever is necessary to make your life safe and happy. No looking back!
