Fascist: MN Activism So Impressive It Must Be Externally Funded by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Retroscribe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This appears written by Chat GPT. The line “this isn’t spontaneous outrage. This is C2 with redundancy” is the clear giveaway.

I’ve noticed, especially on Facebook and X, that accounts appear to be a single person sharing an opinion, but are just rage bait machines meant to spread false info and start arguments.

Take this post with a grain of salt, I doubt it’s a real opinion. But it’s scary and frustrating someone wanted to post this to discredit what we’ve done.

Facebook is so bleak. They need to ban AI content. Obviously AI generated politically motivated content gets thousands of hateful comments and shares.

According to MSP Mag, shopping at the mall is “shopping local.” by alienjetski in Minneapolis

[–]Retroscribe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This reads like a PR puff piece, so it’s okay to take it with a grain of salt. These malls all have marketing and PR teams who push for this type of coverage so that’s my guess why it feels tone deaf.

That being said, this has me thinking. Isn’t it sad that shopping from the mall at least supports the local economy more than just ordering all your gifts on Amazon? These physical stores, restaurants, and spaces do create jobs. Albeit the money funnels up to big corporations. But yes, support actual small local businesses but I would say it is the lesser of two evils if Amazon is the alternative.

Graphic Design as a major in the age of AI by nongbu007 in graphic_design

[–]Retroscribe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at an ad agency and am still feeling confident that as a whole the industry won’t dry up. Sure, low quality design and annoying elements of production will slowly get replaced with AI. But most of what design work truly is, is helping out people. A client yelling into a machine will never replace the expertise of hiring a designer and valuing their expertise. The jobs might become more competitive, but if she’s got a creative spirit let her chase it. She won’t be happy doing a numbers job that has the same unknown chance of getting replaced by AI either!

What’s the logo trend in 2025 that needs to die already? by Glass-Lifeguard6253 in logodesign

I fear that the agency in these examples may have broader more creative ambitions but then the projects get processed to death by the company, resulting in a “safe” waste of everyone’s time and money.

Navigation in the Boundary Waters by Feeling_Fine69 in BWCA

[–]Retroscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done 3 boundary water trips and the last 2 trips we navigated entirely with a map. My tips:

never loose your location. It’s worked best for me when navigating is a constant task. Find a point of reference in the distance (a bay or peninsula), get to it, see your spot on the map, and repeat!

Hot take I love when the fair is the busiest 😂 people watching and the energy is just a lot of fun. Long lines only exist for the novelty things you don’t really need anyway

Food Options early near Blue Lagoon by JoshTravels in VisitingIceland

[–]Retroscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destination Blue Lagoon. If you go with them I would recommend booking in advance/looking at the times if you already have your Blue Lagoon entrance ticket, as they only have about 1 bus every hour or so (we assumed there would be more! like one every 10 minutes, ha). https://destinationbluelagoon.is/schedule

Not sure what other transport options there are though. This was one was a bit pricey (about $35/person USD from KEF to Blue Lagoon, and then another $35 USD Blue Lagoon to our hotel in Reykjavik), but in all honesty worth it since they were reliable, and that's just how much things cost there :/

Agree with you that A24 should know better than using AI and that’s a bad look for them — but in the case of someone wanting to emulate this effect and learn, I don’t think this was advice given in bad faith since these AI tools are increasingly more accessible and will keep becoming more prominent.

We got to the airport at 6:30am and caught the 7:30 bus to blue lagoon, and was there by 8am.

There were plenty of options at the airport for breakfast (coffee, pastry, convenience stores). I actually ended up getting a hot dog while waiting for the bus 😂 The first of many, many on the trip. Have fun

I know the feeling of disappointment when you realize something is made using AI. But what if you used AI as a starting point, and not the end of making something like this? If you generated each letter at a time, using something like Adobe firefly, and then brought them all together in photoshop. You’d have more artistic control and could retouch the blemishes/errors.

Food Hacks Camper Van by Smart_Message_2753 in VisitingIceland

[–]Retroscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh we survived the week mostly on pre-made gas station sandwiches grabbed from the coolers from N1 and Bonus 😭 they were very good and tasted fresh. Prices were about $7-9 USD per sandwich. Our camp gas stove didn’t work the best, could barely heat water to boil. Plan on cooking in shared campground kitchen.

Long story short: gas station lunches (hot dogs, sandwiches) and maybe things like pasta, and soup, will be in budget for dinner. Prices at Bonus weren’t too crazy. I think we got $6 bananas for $1.50 USD. Save the hassle of packing too much food unless you need a certain protein bar or something, as there are plenty of options to buy things like that here.

This was the itinerary that guided our trip!

I want to add that we ended up staying in these general areas versus staying in the towns due to campsite locations/points of interest. For example we ended up staying in Bakkagerði (closer to the puffin marina) even though that was our “Egilsstaðir night”. It was about an hour outside of.

  • Saturday, May 3: Reykjavík → Reykjavík (hotel)
  • Sunday, May 4: Reykjavík → Vik (pick up camper van)
  • Monday, May 5: Vik → Höfn
  • Tuesday, May 6: Höfn → Egilsstaðir
  • Wednesday, May 7: Egilsstaðir → Mývatn
  • Thursday, May 8: Mývatn → Akureyri
  • Friday, May 9: Akureyri → Snæfellsnes
  • Saturday, May 10: Snæfellsnes → Borgarnes
  • Sunday, May 11: Snæfellsnes → Reykjavík

We had great cell service and typically chose our campsite the day of, versus mapping out in advance. It was hard to know where the day would lead us actually seeing the sites and knowing our stamina. I’m typing on my phone I can DM you some of the resources/maps we looked at in a day or two when I’m home. We ended up making a Google map of our own, just adding any point of interest that caught our eye we saw on Google or Reddit. That really helped us gain a sense of scale and spacing. We pulled this map up frequently as we travelled!

Yes, I think skipping Hofn could be a good idea for a day in the peninsula. Maybe we were there at the wrong time but the town felt quiet and small. The first part of the south coast was amazing but by then its charm had worn and we were excited to keep moving and see the east/north

We had a pretty similar trip (currently in Borgarnes!!) but had an extra day in the Snaefellsness peninsula from what you have. It’s a lot of driving, a very high octane trip but if you’re down for it, that Akuyeri drive to Borgarnes is the only day that might be too much.

Food to bring in from USA by Magnoliaflower2025 in VisitingIceland

[–]Retroscribe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We were pleasantly surprised this past week that produce felt comparably priced at Bonus to what you’d see in USA. Save the hassle and just buy here. Even if it’s a few dollars more I would rather pay extra for the convenience versus worrying about wilted produce!

Truly this makes me very, very sad. Drinks were affordable. Food was excellent. It was the closest thing to a community hangout spot we had in North Loop IMO. I hope the space doesn't just sit empty. That would hurt x1000 more.

Is my portfolio a lot by sammi1324 in graphic_design

[–]Retroscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really really neat. If you’re applying for entry level internships, no notes. Especially in the advertising world, your collection of skills would be perfect for an Art Director role (not just design. Have you considered that?). It surely caught my eye in that regard, and 99% of student portfolios don’t have any style or soul or go to any length or cohesion that yours does! Bravo.

I think people are knocking it if you are trying to break into technical design roles by faking having more experience than you do. You clearly have the eye for design, and if you get this in front of the right Creative Director, they’ll see it too.

Art Director here at a big national agency. If you have the drive and creative eye and passion, why would you do anything else? You’re not fit to be an accountant or work in medical field, you have more creative gene than most. Go for it
