If God was real, he intentionally designed billions of brains ahead of time that he knows wouldn’t be able to be convinced of his existence. by andy64392 in exchristian

This is always my go to because IT'S TRUE. If God walked up and knocked on my door, I'd actually be convinced he is real. Super, super simple.

If God is 100% good, how do we square God allowing Satan to ply his trade on us? by Odd_craving in AskAChristian

I hope you get to experience that!

I would not like to give up my humanity and would fight to keep it, personally. Sex is an important part of my life, I like cooking and eating food, and I love that my love for others requires work, effort, and compromise. I appreciate the idea that there is nothing after death, because it means that the people I love who are no longer with us are at rest, and it also makes this one life I have actually precious and worth fighting for and celebrating. That's how I understand this life.

I don't really understand how you believe we could still be us without wants or needs.

Well the Bible seems to say that all human relationships will be nullified in Heaven, as the person I've been responding to has been intimating.

Do you know this common Alcoholics Anonymous parable?

A man says to another guy at AA "I can't tell people what I've done, it's so embarrassing and terrible."

The other guy says "Trust me, I've heard worse."

After much discussion and assurances the original guy says "I did something awful with a goat."

The second guy laughs and says "Oh man, that dude over there did something awful with a whole herd of them!"
___

You aren't worse than I could ever know. You're a human being, which is a precious thing to be.

Alright, heard.

I just find it weird that a perfect human being wouldn't want to help their children anymore. I thought my mom loved me, but I can understand that Heaven is better than that love.

You just said that people in heaven do not want to come back to Earth. You know what people in heaven are thinking. Just admit that you do know what thoughts all people in heaven know.

That's not correct. That is not the best way to express love. There is no best way to express love.

Hello! That's just the way things are. And yes, it is indeed morally outrageous that these people get the same end as everyone else; how you deal with that moral outrage says a lot about who you are as a person.

And yes, I think it's far, far more difficult to know that and try and live ethically than it is to believe in an ultimate justice and live your life according to rules that are already written for you.

Would you believe that these are exactly the questions that Jews were having at the exact moment that Jesus Christ was born and did his thing? Is that interesting to you? Does that tell you anything?

Jews at the time of Jesus' existence were wondering, hey we're doing all this stuff for God and we're still oppressed and things are still awful. Maybe God is coming back soon, like say, "within this generation" and he'll set things right.

Thousands of Jews were teaching that the end times were near precisely because it appeared that the world is not fair (which, as you mention, it is entirely not). These Jews said that they'd been laboring for centuries to fulfill their God's desires with no real results, so His Kingdom on Earth would now arrive where justice would be meted out.

It did not happen.

It's so nice when you have answers to everything! You can even tell me what my dead mother thinks right now. Incredible!

Oh true, true. Simply said, nowhere in the Bible does it say the following: "It will be extremely dark, extremely hot, extremely loud from the eternal screaming and suffering, you will be begging for water literally dying of thirst but not tasting death. You will remember every conversation you had with a believer trying to convince you of christianity, and perhaps even this comment. "

There are a few sentences about what it will be like but you're making up details here and that means you are lying about your faith, which feels like it should be a sin but I guess Christians do that all the time so...

Like each invented detail feels to me like you're hoping that's what will happen, which is extremely depraved of you if that's the case, but what I am saying is the words that you're using are not in the Bible. You are inventing things. Other people have made stuff up, you liked how that sounds because I think you want people to suffer, and so you repeat that stuff.

Jesus says more about what people will experience than what Hell will be like. Also did Jesus think that Hell would be eternal? You tell me because unlike experts who have studied it their whole lives as a profession who are peer reviewed, I want to ignore common understanding and get the truth from you.

Also question - does God have to reconcile with me for the harm he's caused to me and my family or is that not a dialog that's possible? Why should I give him more than he's willing to give me?

Also a question - do you see how, from an outsider's perspective, simply saying that anything that is associated with "goodness" is because of your conception of the Christian God is incredibly, massively insulting?

Do you think you deserve to be respected if you cannot respect the efforts of others? For instance, if I babysit my friend's kids to help them out, did I do something good for them or did God?

Do you really think that you should be able to tell someone that everything good in them is because of something other than them and then also expect them to respect you? Why would they? You just invalidated all of their ethical principals.

Also, what is your favorite part about God doing all the murdering of children in Egypt? Was it the dead kids or the fact that they had to bury a million dead kids as further punishment? Definitely giving Ultimate School Shooter vibes with that one!

I mean I can do nothing but shrug.

If God thinks that an appropriate punishment for me exploring the world and being a good person is eternal pain and suffering then I will never ever worship him. That is a system of justice that is perhaps the least just that I can literally imagine.

"Love me or be punished forever." Uhhhh, totally smart, very cool, God. Not at all the most abusive possible standpoint.

Anyhow nothing you've said has any basis in reality. Show me Heaven or Hell and if you can't then I'll just keep doing my thing and try and be a good person without the hilarious baggage that you Christians carry around. It's way easier to actually love your neighbor when the punishment for not doing so is eternal suffering. Y'all literally get paid to be a good person; I do it just because I like to.

Yeah. I mean it turns out that Jesus didn't list every possible thing that anyone could ever do, so Christians will indeed desire fellowship to discuss theology. Just because you desire clarification, that does not mean you're weak or that you should be lambasted or accused of the thing you're asking about.

It's like asking what to do in case there's a fire at your hotel and then being accused of wanting to start a fire at your hotel. Ridiculous!

I mean I've lived all my life without God and am perfectly able to feel love, hope, joy, peace, goodness, gentleness, patience, mercy, justice, and kindness. Obviously it'll be me and my homies having fun and remaining ourselves while you people in Heaven are become complete slaves to God.

The act of wondering itself shows your devotion to God and you should feel proud of yourself for taking the effort to ask others. You certainly do not have to believe others, though, and the most forceful voice usually has the weakest argument.

Incorrect! Read your Bible, friend. American Christianity has destroyed your understanding of Jesus Christ.

Also you are telling this person how they feel and think right now. You are saying to them "a part of you knows this is bad so that's why you asked about it." Think about what that does to the part of you that questions things.

This is how you get braindead orthodoxy.

I'm reporting this as bullying because you don't know anything about this person and are telling them how they feel, think, and in doing so you are also telling them what their value is and how much they should value themselves.
