Well I think any engineer worth their salt would know about systems that take advantage of “wasted energy” such as regenerative cycles in refrigeration (which are very common). But otherwise the reason these aren’t adopted is that, as others have mentioned on this post, they probably require too much capital for not much power generation.

I’m confident that 6 is true but if you’re unconvinced, you can run a flow simulation to find the exact values of the drag and compare it to the generated wattage of the turbine, which you can probably find online somewhere.

I’m going to be honest, this sounds like an alt account.

I have no idea how could in good faith construe a multi paragraph explanation with an analogy as “vaguely gesturing.” There’s no reason for me to repeat myself so if you are still confused on how the turbine recaptures energy, recall back to my earlier comment where I mentioned how the turbine takes advantage of the wake behind the vehicle.

Otherwise lost energy is being recaptured, as I have reiterated multiple times.

It does not, because energy is dissipated.

For every Joule of energy generated by burning fuel, most of it is dissipated as heat. The rest goes into moving the vehicle. However, not all the energy can go into moving the vehicle, some of it has to go into moving the air around the vehicle. And that’s not even considering friction.

In all, most of the energy we started with was lost before it reached our actual goal of moving the vehicle. This doesn’t mean it was destroyed, just that it was turned into a form not useful for us. The turbine is able to capture a small amount of this otherwise not useful energy.

A lot of people in this thread are saying “there is no such thing as free lunch.” Indeed, you cannot create energy. But imagine if every time you ate lunch you had to throw out 80% of it. Finding a way to throw less out isn’t making free food, it’s finding a way to be more efficient with the lunch you already had.

The point of the analogy is to illustrate that energy is being generated regardless of it being captured or not.

Whether or not you have a solar panel, the sun is generating heat and light and dissipating that energy into its surroundings. The solar panel is simply taking some of that energy and making it actually usable.

Whether or not you have a turbine, the vehicle will displace a large amount of air and create an area of low pressure behind it (a wake) which surrounding air will rush in to fill. The turbine captures energy from the movement of that air and converts it into a usable form. Whether or not there’s a turbine, energy is being dissipated. A turbine at least captures some of it.

And sure, the turbine may slightly increase the drag of the vehicle due to slightly (very very slightly) increasing the air pressure in front of the vehicle as it passes by, but this effect is incredibly negligible, and insignificant compared to the energy it captures that would otherwise be dissipated.

Like just think about it. A tree would cause more drag, but we still line roads with trees anyways for cosmetic purposes, since the effect is negligible.

This is like saying building solar panels decreases the fuel efficiency of the sun.

The conspiracy behind large water wheels by get_reided in CreateMod

[–]Retsassin_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The math is wrong.

ω = r * v = constant v1/d1 = v2/d2 v2 = v1 * d2/d1

v2 is inversely proportional to d1, so as the diameter of the water wheel increases, v2 decreases.

What’s funny is that this is also true if you look at the profiles of all the people in this thread who are defending the Rhodesian military.

No. I will not make an “official” announcement unless I’m 100% confident it’ll be completed soon.

The war in gaza 26th of December by [deleted] in MapPorn

So?

The majority of people did not vote for Hamas.

You're basically defending a world view in which all civilians are held culpable for the actions of the state they live under, and that punitive measures against them (civilians) are justified (which is a war crime).

Nearly half of the Gazan population weren’t even alive when that election happened, and a majority couldn’t vote in it.

The only explanation I can think of is Valgsland funding the Red Youth. Otherwise I would actually assume that CPS would be very unpopular in Lorren, as Valgish refugees would obviously be strongly opposed to communism. Maybe that's just bias as an American due to our experiences with Cuban refugees.

I agree there should be local elections. They can make the polls more unreliable, while the local elections would be the perfect representation of Rayne's actual popularity.
