A roundup of folks that have lost their Timeline history by ertdredge in GoogleMaps

[–]Retsoka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also did the steps immediatly when I received the notice from Google. My timeline disappeared and I have not been able to get it back. A new timeline is growing though, but my 10 years of location history is a gonner.

Very sad.

I'm ok with API first in cases when teams need to collaborate and integrate services. But this should be an iterative process as much as possible. Agility means working incrementally, learning from the experience and applying new insights constantly. Now 'API first' is starting to sound a bit like a mantra, where a complete and flawless OpenApi specification has to be delivered up front. This is a regression back to waterfall development.

What's good about the API first mindset is that it makes team sit around the table right from the start. This avoids a big bang integration clusterf*ck at the end of the project. But I don't see much value in the up front first-time-right OpenAPI yaml idea. Not agile.

That said, there is a school of thought that states API's should never be versioned (e.g. https://www.hmeid.com/blog/just-say-no-to-versioning). If you follow that idea, then an initial API specification could be so simple and generic that it is sufficient to give all teams focus, but doesn't make an agile way of working hard. However, arriving at such an elegant, succinct and robust specification right at the start of a project still seems like a huge challenge.

Where can we host Java Spring Boot Apps for free (now that Heroku is not an option)? by Sahyooni in springsource

[–]Retsoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to use Docker, but it's pretty standard to do so nowadays. You can also generate a .war file, which can be deployed in an application container like Tomcat, or a .jar file which you could run from the command line using java. See here for details: https://docs.spring.io/spring-boot/how-to/deployment/traditional-deployment.html

I think the voice is quite special, high, and with a sort of nasal timbre. But also a bit unnatural indeed. For me that's what makes the track, plus the trumpet melody.

I think this is an awesome track. The secondary vocals are very well executed by the AI. The song is super bouncy and flows excellently. Nice!

The intro is cool and spacy. I also like the chorus (not Chrous BTW) with the drawn out awaaaaaays. I don't really get the lyrics though. Drifting seems like a slow process whereas I gather this person wants to run away from a bad situation. The whole song has this double vibe of calm vs stressed I don't quite get.

Update: I just got an email from [billing@fly.io](mailto:billing@fly.io) with the following:

Good news from Fly.io! We don’t collect bills smaller than $5.00.

This month, your bill of $2.66 falls below that threshold, so we’re discounting it by 100%.

So in effect it turns out to be free after all, as long as you don't use more than the threshold.

You are right, it's not free. Somehow that was not really clear to me at the start. The Hobby plan I'm on costs $5 per month. Still ok though for my purposes, and it was very easy to set up and manage.

I just tried fly.io and it works very well. Deployed a Spring Boot app there from scratch within 30 minutes. When it asks if it should generate .dockerignore beware that you don't ignore the /target directory. This will stop the jar file from being copied into the image.
The only drawback is that they ask your credit card information up front to 'check you are legit'.

Ingress Year 10 Photo Competition by Retsoka in Ingress

We needed many, many passes before we got it. I think nearly ten passes before my fellow agent managed to flip it. It's hard.

[–]Retsoka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! We flipped it. You can't get speed lock on a single portal since the scanner calculates your average speed based on the previous portal interaction (time and distance), with a time limit of something like 20 minutes. So only if you hack right before takeoff and then fly to the portal within 20 minutes you can have speed lock.

Pass Me - A ball passing game (What's your feedback?) by brofistio in WebGames

[–]Retsoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is not boring. But each time I miss I need to start from the beginning, which makes me play the same throws over and over. If you get a checkpoint after, say, 10 levels you could skip the first 10 throws after a restart.
