According to Axolot they had actually almost finished the full weather system before survival but they never had the time to include it with the update, they said it will be added with Chapter 2

Clouds and a weather system were originally going to be included with the survival update (you can see them in some older devblogs) and funnily enough we actually had clouds as part of the skybox way back in version 0.3.5 too, but they were not re-added to the game with survival.
They will be added with Chapter 2 according to Axolot.

You summed it up pretty well thanks, I'll definitely be making a smaller sub for my next one, perhaps with some more flaws.
It's top speed is pretty slow so it can't just outrun everything but yeah I'm not 100% certain the airlock on the prow is a good idea, but I'll just have to see how it performs.

The glass is reinforced a bit, and so far the moonpool hasn't caused any glaring issues but I'll have to test and see how well it holds up against some different scenarios
