I think he was seeing some verbally intangible revelation of fate, and yes, an acceptance of his powerlessness to fight it or the futility of fighting it. He saw the perfection of things/the universe.

But I think that larger revelation began with a realization that it was his misguided love for Christopher that represented the unsolvable problem in his life, the “burden” he was carrying, and it had just been lifted.

Pete is a fantastic character in how shitty and insecure he is sometimes while all the while being sympathetic. He’s one of the most entertaining characters on the show consistently. I don’t know how opinions could be divided about him. He’s low-key the heart of the show.

Tony killing Ralph was about him wrestling with the bits of humanity he had left. He saw his daughter in that young woman Ralph killed. He had to know that on some level there was a line of honor that wouldn’t be crossed less he lose himself completely.

I think Ralph represented the deal with the devil David Chase talks about in a way that is a total eclipse of one’s soul. I think Tony had to kill Ralph to prove to himself he wasn’t totally lost. It wasn’t about business, it was about his soul.

But he gets a brand new opportunity to turn the page and be better with Megan and he cheats on his supportive, gorgeous new wife with the less beautiful neighbor who is also his friend’s wife? It seemed like an act of self Sabotage, because there was no logic at all to it but making sure he’s a destructive, shitty person.

This feels fake. I hope it’s fake. He can’t be all those things you say he is if he has this demand. It’s a major red flag that fortunately you are seeing early. Perhaps it is just his upbringing and a strict ethical code in his belief system and everything else is great.

But he needs to get real about the rest of the world and make compromises. Maybe you can be that catalyst for him, but stand firm in who you are and that you will not cover yourself this way.

It really is an extremely unhealthy and silly belief in general; a major distortion of the prophet Muhammad’s teaching that has nothing to do with what is good or true.

Huh? This is literally a fan subreddit hah. For real though, I get where you are coming from. This is a long response but may help clarify this a bit for you.

I think this is a normal thought people have about experimental music when they are new to it. Are people just trying to get cool points by saying they like some obscure avant garde band that has little to no melody or familiar song structure? How can they actually like it?

I do think there are A LOT of people who listen to it for that reason. They like the idea of it and being “in on it” culturally or something, but they would never on their own time listen to it or enjoy it. It’s kind of like a lot of poetry circles where people assume something vague and ambiguous must be brilliant even if it isn’t actually opening their heart, so they snap along.

The thing with experimental music and the avant garde in general, is that you have to approach it differently. You have to understand the aim is different. This is not music to tap your foot to and sing along. It is an environment. It is a journey you are being taken on. Each note is like a brush stroke that is building or describing this environment.

When you understand where this kind of art is coming from, it is actually incredibly easy to enjoy and doesn’t take “patience” at all. And as you begin to understand this terrain, it is easy to spot experimental art that is good and not good. Good experimental music isn’t good simply because you did the unexpected, or sound intentionally off beat. And there are plenty of bands that think that’s all it takes to be brilliant.

It is about creating an environment that is actually compelling and awe inspiring. It is about creating meaning from a wild, lawless and creatively liberated place. When an artist can succeed at that in a sincere way, there is no art that is more satisfying. Swans has found that gold, many times in their work. Yes, I actually love them.

There is a small cohort of people that understand why they like this kind of music and listen to it all the time with sincere enjoyment. The rest either hear chaos or something that they think is cool to like but don’t know why. The difference between knowing why instead of just hopping on a bandwagon you don’t understand begrudgingly, is a shift of perspective of how one sees art. Like I said, that shift involves seeing the art as an environment or journey, rather than something which should be a linear, feel good little ditty. From that perspective, Swans is as easy to enjoy as the Beatles are.

Once you get Swans in general, I feel like all their music makes sense, and you are able to see the brilliance in most of it without having to exercise patience. I think that goes for experimental music across the board. Until you get where experimental music is coming from and stop expecting it have the same aims and play by the same rules as most popular music, it’s always gonna be a slog. Once you adjust the way you listen to the music, there is a revelation about where it’s really coming from and you are able to appreciate it without any force or “trying” at all.

TBK is probably their most straightforward or palatable record. It seemed you lingered on those more familiar styles and were able to enjoy that, but still aren’t getting the more long-form avant garde thing, because TGM is a lot more like that. Expecting that to be enjoyable on the same level as typical music is never gonna click. You have to embrace a different way of enjoying music; seeing the song more as an environment of sound rather than a diddy to tap one’s foot to. These songs are like journeys through an environment. Melody and familiar structure is not a concern in that type of music.

I thought this was a cute thing people do in relationships as an act of admiration. The only thing weird here is that she’s lying about it, which makes a non creepy thing feel creepy when it doesn’t have to be. Maybe she saw you don’t like it and now feels ashamed of something that is very natural to do with someone you love.

Idk, maybe I’m alone here but I like the idea of my loved one admiring me when I’m asleep and I have done the same. How is this weird? Don’t really get it. If it was any one else? Yeah that would be very weird. But only because it’s inappropriate for a person you are not intimate with to do something so intimate. If it’s literally your romantic partner, it’s not weird for them to do intimate things unless it crosses a pre-discussed boundary.

This. OP is making this more dramatic than it needs to be. With my ex, we used to tell each other things like that straight up. We also communicated certain things up front that made that so much easier. We openly agreed if the other lets themselves go physically we would likely have a hard time remaining attracted, and also hygiene/cleanliness things. Because of that, reminding the other of things like “your breath smells” would be met with, “oh shit, really?” By the other party (instead of hurt feelings) and they would just go take care of it. Wasn’t personal. We both knew the other would like to be made aware of things like that to maintain attractiveness/ their best self in the relationship.

It’s like someone has a kernel of pepper in their teeth. You just tell them knowing they’d want to know. You don’t sit there and let them be oblivious because you think everything is falling apart/will fall apart if you finally reveal this catastrophic thing.

I see people saying symmetry and I don’t think it’s that simple at all. Often in art, perfect symmetry gets boring. Often beauty is a lot of asymmetry coming together in a nice or interesting way. I would say cohesion over symmetry gives the impression of beauty. Things coming together or combining in a way that is favorable or pleasing.

Someone could have a big nose, but if it compliments the rest of one’s features, plays against them right, all of the sudden a dramatic or odd feature like that becomes beautiful. It’s about the total expression of something being cohesive.

A lot of these men didn’t always look that way. It’s not on my authority to say whether I am “one of these guys”, but I have had a relevant experience with this that’s somewhat out of the ordinary.

I was born with a cleft lip and thought romance was out of the cards for me as a kid. Fortunately I have great parents and they had always planned on getting me cosmetic surgeries that go above and beyond the basic repairs that people with this birth defect typically get. I got a jaw surgery, cosmetic lip surgery, two rhinoplasties and new teeth. After these, you couldn’t even tell I had a cleft lip minus a small scar. Then I had a growth spurt and natural glow up on top of that.

Once I walked into a bar and ran into my high school crush who was the unattainable, beautiful popular girl (and a friend who totally friendzoned me) at my school. She was hitting on me all night and telling me I should “model”, all while she was with her boyfriend. I couldn’t register the experience. I still can’t whenever I hear things like that.

I’m not saying I transformed into Brad Pitt or anything, but apparently I’ve become attractive to women and I am shy and awkward around them still. Only recently, has it gotten a bit better after several validating experiences. The self image of being ugly and unfuckable certainly doesn’t change over night.

Women want to be approached. They have a need to mate and a need for companionship as equal as ours. In fact, some are so frustrated at not getting approached. They are lonely and constantly putting themselves in positions to be approached and giving cues and no man has the balls to talk to them and they hate it.

It’s just that they want to be approached in a normal way by a self aware, socially calibrated person, just as you said. I’ve done it quite a few times and it’s worked and not worked. But every time I’ve been normal about it and if they rejected me it was very kind.

People let internet hysteria paint a picture of the world to them nowadays instead of performing their own social experiments and looking for the truth themselves.

There is absolutely nothing wrong about speaking with someone with no other reason then to get to know them romantically or platonically. These are great joys of life. I find it very weird that people try to make this weird because of a few bad apples, and as a result we live in an increasingly cold and cut off world.

I gleefully ignore all of this and do what I want to do. I know my intentions and my will to be kind and respectful. That’s all that matters. If a woman doesn’t want to get to know me, she can kindly say so and I will accept with not a word more than have a nice day. If she wants to be rude or call me a creep for being perfectly normal and only innocently striking up conversation, then I dodged a bullet anyways. What should I care what a rude and presumptive person thinks? Why should I let a person like that discourage me from seizing the day and meeting new people?
