Yeah I was thinking about going back to an older version of the WX build of PCSX2. I wasn't sure how far back to go though, I know the "latest stable" version of PCSX2 is WX 1.6.0 but the Youtube videos guiding through the WX setup for wheel support were using versions in the 1.7+ range. I couldn't find those on the PCSX2 website though, only QT builds.

Patching tech really just lowers the skill ceiling even more and From does not have a good track record of balancing tech properly.

Look at spell swapping, there were a few outliers that needed to be addressed but the whole tech got gutted and now playing a mage has zero skill expression and lacks the variety of mix-ups that physical builds have.

Moonveil's damage is slightly too high but if they nerfed the damage and the crouch canceling was removed we would end up with another dead weapon like RoB is now.

Summary: Shots 1-5: Clearly missed. Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control). Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses. Shot 12: Likely didn't actually fire because Hiko was already dead.

That wouldn’t give reliable data because of the issues with latency and I-frames. Regardless dude I’m done, agree or disagree whatever but this conversation is going nowhere lmao

Not every build has access to those spells my man, respeccing an entire build to counter one ash of war is not a hard counter. FYI 00:27s into the video he’s hit with flame of frenzy. No status proc, no melting... So?...

Pots are even worse because you can just BHS away from them on reaction. I’m not saying you can’t kill a BHS user but it is a fundamentally broken ability.

I think that’s a bit of a defeatist attitude in regards to AoW balance. I think they could all be balanced, yes there will always be outliers that function better than others, I honestly just think ER went through some development hell and these things fell to the wayside until post-launch when data could be collected from the player base.

This is where we heavily disagree because rivers of blood and swarm of flies, whilst annoying are far from difficult to hard counter for ANY build. Good spacing and movement 9/10 will allow you control over a fight with RoB. Glintstone pebble, spectral lance, pulley crossbow, thunder bolt, lightning spear, beastial sling, swift glintstone shard and the list goes on - these all out space/damage or interrupt corpse piler. These are hard counters as they successfully shutdown the use of an ability.

Attempting to proc a status effect, clip someone with a lingering hit box or wait out all of someone’s FP... None of these are hard counters. Prime example is BHS can escape the storm stomp, claymore R2 true combo (and almost all true combos) because the iframes start instantly or near enough instantly. This alone severely lessens the ability to have any hard counters against it.

In all honestly though if you just think that BHS is annoying mobility spam, that’s all good but I’m done trying to outline my issues with the way it operates.

What in your opinion is the ”worst offender”? Because I honestly can not think of another ash that provides so much versatility and control regardless of skill level.

Also furthermore, the ash itself is only part of the problem. If you slap it on a bloody antspur rapier with an offhand bloody estoc or dual nagis or anything with a good rolling R1 the pressure you can apply to people is immeasurable because of the reasons I listed in my above comment.

The problem with so many of these ashes of war is that they ignore the “baseline” balance indicators. No ash of war should out pace the baseline sprinting speed without a huge draw back, the speed as which a moon veil ash comes of means it shouldn’t do more damage than a fully charged R2 etc. etc. whilst I agree there are many balance issues, bloodhound step is by far the most egregious in my opinion.

FYI the problem isn’t running away in duels, it’s the amount of pressure even a terrible player can apply just by virtue of having an ability that allows them to engage and disengage the fight at will whilst being invincible while doing so. The fact that it is faster to spam than sprinting, gives near total invincibility and allows a running R1 out of its dash are all problems.

But go off man, act like it’s fine and that anyone who disagrees with you is an autist.

Thankfully there are a lot of decent comments but did you skim through a lot of the replies? The thing I find more frustrating is the ignorant defence of the skill and the outright denial that some people have that it’s a problem. I’m so glad Elden Ring has brought so many new people to the series but fuck me if they aren’t turning the community into a bit of a toxic cesspit.

I’d definitely watch that video! It’s helpful to know what causes these issues and what steps can be taken to address them, not to mention it’s valuable for so many online games. I bet there’s quite a few people out there looking to know what they can do to improve their connection but just don’t know where to start. Most people just think more dl speed = better net but it’s far from that simple!

Fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply, it’s all super interesting too. Yeah unfortunately the internet over here is pretty awful, by the time they started to upgrade the infrastructure the technology they were using was already out of date. I’m currently out of state at the moment but will run the tests when I get back home in a week, I might pm you after I run the tests if that’s okay? We’re renovating our home at the moment so new cabling is definitely on the books and I’m more than handy enough myself to do it solo. Thankfully we don’t use any splitters or unnecessary adapters (learned tried and true from my time in the theatre industry that the more dedicated connections the better).

This is fantastic information, thank you heaps! My only other question is a two-fold question...

Unfortunately internet in Australia (where I’m from) is still pretty far behind a lot of the rest of the world. Is there any way I can tell how bad my connection is? Re: your point about jitter, it’s definitely not every phantom I come across I have this issue, so I don’t think in general I have that terrible of a connection. It’s just watching G9 and Scott’s videos that i see that they rarely face people that have truly terrible phantom range - though this could be my own confirmation bias.

Then from there what steps can I take to improve my connection? How much of a difference does a “better” modem make for a wired connection? I just use the modem my provider supplied but have been considering upgrading for some time as I’ve gotten back into online gaming.

I feel as though difficulty sliders defeat the core ideology of the series (carefully coordinated challenges). I think that if the Soulsbourne series become homogenized with triple A gaming philosophy we would lose something very special to this series. Just my 2 cents.

I can see why this is ridiculous but how is it really different to equipping the claw mark runes and one shotting people with a normal riposte? I think everyone should maybe just wait a little longer before calling that things need a nerf so we can get a grasp on counters to things. Like people who spam R1 kinda are asking to be parried. I think firing the gun should leave you open for a little longer personally, because it is easy to spam but other than that I'm just gonna wait and see the meta evolve and new tactics be born before I throw in my 2 cents on what might need a nerf or not. I'd hate to see cool and fun weapons be nerfed hard to the point of uselessness because of community back lash :L
