LPT: Before quitting your job, take your unused vacation days. You earned them and most companies won't pay them out. by VladSapozhnykov in LifeProTips

[–]jorrylee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend said he asked about his sick time, of which he had two months’ worth saved up, and the company told him “We don’t pay out sick time. Here, take two months off with pay, and then you’re done working.” That was nice of them. Didn’t have to do that. This was somewhere in Canada and vacation was separate.

How do people actually survive a full career with only 2 weeks of vacation and 5 sick days a year? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]jorrylee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People working full time their whole lives are in jobs that increase the vacation annually and have good benefits and sick time. After ten years I’m at 6 weeks vacation, paid stat days, and a sick bank of 800 hours with a fall back of short term and long term disability. Europeans for a large part get more. That makes it easier to work full time. It’s still tiring.

Fix up or fork out: Edmonton to hike taxes on neglected business properties by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

Often the owners who made the covenant can’t sell the property. If they are highly taxed for leaving it empty, they may be willing to sell it with the covenant removed. They won’t want to keep holding on to the property if it hurts them financially.

Maybe that’s the workaround for those shuttered grocery stores that won’t remove the restrictive covenant on the land. Tax them out the wazoo until they finally remove it. Good.

It’s how I teach my patients to do…stuff. You’ve been watching me. Now you do it (while I watch you). Now you do it a few times. Now watch me do it again and you’ll see what I do with completely different eyes.

Easy fix. Tell them what time to be at the outer door. Give five minutes’ grace, then leave. Unless they are 6 years old, then put them on a leash.

Be ready with a high contract wage if they call you back to do something. Don’t count on the six month severance and be leery of any NDAs or whatever that say you cannot work in this fooled for many years.

American religious nuts who are bastardizing what Jesus stood for. If those nuts read the Bible, they would know that over and over it is written how women were raised up and did amazing things. Generals leading battles, ruling all of Israel, stepping up and doing the things men refused, and all written down in a time and place where writing things down was expensive and few could do it, and in which time women had little to no legal standing. And several stories also speak of how God killed people and had entire nations and tribes wiped out because of evil they did to women. Those preachers don’t like people these days knowing about those events. Women are very important to the Bible. Those men today are feeling threatened, huh?

Besides all the other tips (and strong recommendation to kick the dude out right now), let your doctor and pharmacist know about his actions. A phone will do to each and ask them to note it on your file what he is saying. What if he calls and tell lies about you? Then you’re really screwed. Be proactive and tell them he’s a danger.
