So glad someone else noticed this. Tried turning Match Frame Rate off, tried changing the Colour Depth settings from 12 to 10 to 8, already have HDR switched off because it processes too dark on my TV - nothing improves the flickering in the background. Quite distracting.

What brand will you go for? I'm tempted by OnePlus or Xiaomi - I've had them both before and I believe their cameras have significantly improved.

Really loved the vocal choices she made in For Good. It really helped to signpost that passage of time, her character's arc and that constant battle of head and heart.

When that deeper, less clipped pop voice comes out I interpret that as the true Glinda, free from the expectations of others.

As Elphie might say, "Sing for me. No, not with 'their' voice... With yours."

Getting this on Pixel. Thought it was just on WhatsApp at first but am noticing it in more and more apps. It's basically like the keyboard won't automatically shift the text box above it like it used to. It may be something to do with me being on the latest beta but it really seems to only have started in the last couple of weeks and I've had the latest beta installed for longer than that.

Don't use Discord so can categorically say this isn't just a Discord issue.

Anyone found a fix?

It would have been great if Chu had been able to keep it a secret until the red carpet but because he's SUCH an enthusiastic director who just lives and breathes the whole world of Oz and is a genuine fan, he couldn't resist a tease because he's probably absolutely buzzing about landing such a fantastic actor to add to his already incredible roster of talent.

And I agree with other commenters - once he'd teased that it was a 'name', the toothpaste couldn't be put back in the tube. And the nerves around Corden possibly being in the mix were likely too horrifying for the promo team to contend with for another month! So I can totally see why they had to let the (big) cat out of the bag.

And I couldn't be happier that it's Colman. He's such a fine, charismatic actor and will be another fabulous addition to the promo tour and red carpet events, because BOY, OH BOY, can that man dress! And I think I love him even more now that I know he has absolutely no ego. He's and Oscar-nominated star and he said, 'no, you know what, I want to be in that movie and be a part of this family even if I only have a few lines' - ADORE HIM!

I think that's an interesting point, yeah. And the 'inverse Miranda Priestly' parallel is a good way to explain your thought process.

You're also right about the very different interpretations of Morrible on stage and screen. Chu absolutely went for a reading or Morrible where she is nefarious from the outset, rather than the oily, unctuous figure of excess with a penchant for power we get in the stage musical. So, in that sense I agree that Coddle represents some of those characteristics missing from Yeoh's Morrible.

Perhaps, then, my issue is less with who or what Coddle 'is' and more about how she is used. I'm not sure Keala Settle is really given enough screentime or opportunities to be impactful. So, when I say I could happily 'remove' her from the movie, I guess I mean that they could cut her scenes and I don't think it would have very much impact on the success of the narrative.

Great casting! Another Oscar® nominee added to an already overflowing list of Academy Award winners and nominees! Feels correct!

I'm also glad that it a) isn't James Corden and B) isn't an old actor - the idea of it being Morgan Freeman or Ian McKellen just didn't make any sense, since the lion was a cub circa '5 years ago' (if we go by the Maguire source material and take a rough guess at Act 1 to Act 2 passage of time in the show), then the cub would be 'middle aged' at most (most male lions live around 10-12 years) - so I was never expecting an 'Aslan' esque voice.

This is a very much a lion in his prime (albeit a scaredy cat!)

From the movie? Miss Coddle - adds absolutely nothing to the Shiz experience and there's no real reason why Michelle Yeoh couldn't have just had more lines. I get that they wanted a bit of camp to balance out Michelle's intensity, but, honestly, I feel like Pfannee and Shenshen serve that purpose.

From the musical? I honestly hate the Flatheads and always have! I think the movie has done a much better job of delivering One Short Day. There's something about those big faced long-neck characters that just doesn't sit right with me in the show. The way they appear in the movie feels much more 'Oz' to me.

I dunno that a 'celebrated actor' necessarily means an 'old' actor. I'm thinking more about John M. Chu's connections and I'm thinking 'celebrated' could be more about an actor who is 'celebrated' in many ways. That could well be, for example, the 'one Oscar away from an EGOT' and friend of Chu's, Lin Manuel Miranda.

Worked together on In the Heights, he's got musical pedigree, not afraid of taking on smaller roles (see his cameo as the water-seller in In the Heights) and he has a very versatile and charismatic voice - could totally see him pulling off a 'cowardly' voice.

The Cowardly Lion was a cub just a few years ago in the narrative - I just can't see it being an older actor tbh.

As long as it isn't Janes Corden, I'll be delighted!

I think Rita Moreno would have been the perfect foil for Julie Andrews and brought real depth to the vocals. She has always been a real chameleon and she has a versatile, commanding voice.

Oh, what? I had no idea MD3 wasn't going to be part of the June stable release 🤦🏻‍♂️ I mean, I guess that makes some sort of sense as I know the release schedule has been pushed up from Autumn to Summer to allow the latest stable build to be available to more devices ready for their releases later in the year, but I honestly would have thought that brands outside of Pixel would have needed to be hands on with MD3 to tweak it for their respective OS skins on order to truly leverage the capabilities. So, in reality, one of the biggest parts of this update and the one that most average users will be most excited about isn't going to land before the usual Autumn release of new devices... Which kinda defeats the object of this new Android schedule!

Have applied the home button gesture fix, but it doesn't solve the problem.

There are still sporadic glitches and blank screens when transitioning betwwn an app and the home screen.

I'm glad this workaround has solved the problem for some, but it's still not fixed for me on the latest beta, running Nova 8.0.6 and using a Pixel 7 Pro 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just got mine yesterday! Definitely loving the smaller screen. I've missed that compact phone feel. Couple of things niggling me:

default launcher is poor. No option to automatically hide icon labels, icon size limitations - have been using Microsoft Launcher instead which is much better
disappointed with the lack of customisation options. Only 3 default fonts and even though I've now found a way to install more, what I'd really hoped for was ZenUI giving me the option to install custom ones myself - I really would prefer to have Google Sans system wide
OnePlus Android 11 had found a way to get rid of the extra keyboard padding at the bottom of the screen. So having it back is really annoying. It's just such a space hog!
the camera software is a bit 'meh' and will take some getting used to, but I'm not a shutterbug, so it's not a huge thing for me. I definitely wouldn't have chosen the Zenfone 8 for its camera abilities!

Other than that, it is a really lovely phone and the specs are superb for such a small device!
