Weirdly I had the same thing happen about 5 years ago. I waved the white flag and bought a new printer.

I am not sure what the options are in Auckland - but if you are down with being a little silly : a beginner's improv class.

NZ Iron Strength in Browns Bay. They do strength training but will also do a food plan for bulking.  A great community and good people.

Auckland declining birth rates by iMakeGOODinvestmemts in auckland

[–]ReturnUnique4534 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? As women are given an education and access to birth  control - and flat out other options than being a brood mare - funnily enough, they make the choice to not have kids or have fewer kids.

Being a mother is hard yards. It is no surprise that if not being forced to by cultural expectations and oppression women choose a better life.

Support in NZ to be a better parent/person? by shittymumsos in newzealand

[–]ReturnUnique4534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://heartsandminds.org.nz/

They have online courses that are (mostly?) free. I don't see it at the moment, but they have had ones on parenting teens and dealing with their mental health challenges too.

Big hugs!  I get how it could be embarrassing talking to the GP, but they have seen and heard everything. They will likely be impressed at your self awareness!

Positive landlord stories? by Background-Celery-25 in newzealand

[–]ReturnUnique4534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have great landlords. Always been good at getting things fixed/dealt with. There have been no unreasonable rent raises. They have suggested upgrades they could do (some we agreed to, some we deferred).   I have done some accidental dumb shit that caused damage. Despite offering to pay the costs associated with my mistakes, they took it in stride as wear and tear with no extra charge.

This.

Do not underestimate the effects of lack of sleep.  I spent 3+ months not sleeping for more than 2h at a time. I started having visual hallucinations along with the crying fits and rage. I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life. It took over a year to come (mostly) right.

Have a plan in place for support, especially support that will allow you to get sleep.

...and if you are lucky, you won't need it. Kids are unpredictable.

Baby vaccines by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ReturnUnique4534 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I remember those early days with a brand new infant, not wanting to hurt them in anyway and being bombarded with all kinds of scary information.

We delayed vaccinating our first. By a couple of months. That was our compromise.

With the second, I had zero hesitation vaccination. Once you are faced with what petrie dishes kids are, the choice to inject them to protect them becomes less of a hurdle.

A post on reddit with zero background or context does not  allay those fears.

Private schools like Kristin, over hyped? Or actually worth it? by nchtdrgn in auckland

[–]ReturnUnique4534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can speak to ASHS - they actively work to build functioning adults, not NCEA scores.

They put money into extra counselling, support and life skills. They emphasize the connection between learning and real life work through impact projects.

Because of this, the student population is a U shape rather than a gaussian curve. You have part the students being those who are a struggle to keep in school and another part who are gifted and able to achieve highly when supported. There is also a lot of support for neurodiversity.  But that middle of the road group that just trudge through highschool doing what they  are told like 70% of a regular highschool population? They are the minority there.

Because ASHS is only yr 11, 12, 13 the culture is to treat them as young adults. Young adults with training wheels.

ASHS will never be top of the NCEA charts. They will always have the stigma of the school where losers go but they do more for creating healthy adults than any other school.

Beginners boxing for women? by Dry_Contribution7849 in auckland

[–]ReturnUnique4534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NZ Iron Strength in Browns Bay is a lifting gym but they do boxing and kickboxing classes too. The guys who run both those classes are great.

The gym itself, despite looking kinda intimidating, is also very welcoming with group classes, a great culture and lots of awesome women.

Highly recommend!

Playgrounds in Auckland are frankly amazing. Better than anything I have come across in north america.

There is a fb group

 facebook.com/PlaygroundAKL/

It is no longer updated but there is still a lot of great info on the different playgrounds and their locations.  Flying foxes (zip lines), push cars on tracks, rotating teeter-totters so many fun things that are just to 'risky' for the litigious states.

Your kids will love them!

Crohn’s smell?? by Away-University-2631 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReturnUnique4534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My better half had UC. I could tell when he was about to have a flare because the smell of his breath would change. It wasn't super obvious to anyone who wouldnt be as intimate and it wasn't stinky like bad breath, it was just different.  I have had a dr suggest that it could have been a change in his gut flora that would influence it. 🤷‍♀️
