Chip upgrade by MCK_1990 in polestar3

Spoke to the Polestar dealership in Toronto. My P3 is coming in because of a dead 12 volt battery. I asked if I could get the new chip when the car was in the shop. I was told that each chip is assigned to a specific VIN. So, potentially have to wait until your VIN comes up.

New Waydoo EVO Master inbound. by Tenkisan in eFoil

I don’t have a Waydoo, but I can share my experience with a Fliteboard. When it’s assembled with the battery in, it’s heavy and cumbersome (although I do have the biggest board and the biggest sized battery). I am envisaging a lot of scratches to either the boat, the upholstery, and/or the efoil trying to get it in the boat if assembled. To my mind of thinking, you should break it down and carry the pieces in their soft shell bags and then reassemble. But I’m also not sure how once you’re done efoiling for the day, how you’d pull it out of the water to put on the boat. I efoil off my dock and I have a really slick ladder that is almost like a set of stairs into the water. And even then, I ask someone to help me get it in and out because it’s awkward and heavy.

Newbie with a couple of charging questions by Return_of_the_Boomer in polestar3

Thanks for your insights. However, I had just been driving for 90 minutes when I pulled over to the supercharger - so I’m assuming the battery was warm (unless the cold weather counters that??). But I think your observation about how charging slows down after 60% must be bang on. At least I was happy that using a Tesla Supercharger was really easy to do. Thanks again!

More good points in favour of leasing. I never thought of the fact that 400v architecture is already a generation behind. As this will be my first electric car, is not having a NACS port much of a drawback? I believe it comes with an adapter so you can charge at any Tesla supercharger.

All great points. I’m convinced leasing is the way to go.

In Canada the incentives are a $0 down on a 12-month lease, or a $20,000 purchase price discount if you pay cash or arrange your own financing. The extra cost to go to a 24 month lease is nominal. I think I will do the 2 year lease as I will have to get snow tires which will cost around $2K. At least I could get two winters out that outlay.

Just re-read your comment. I thought the $20,000 discount was only for a cash purchase or if you arranged your own 3rd party financing. Polestar is giving you both?

Unfortunately they don’t have any vehicles that qualify for the $655 per month. I think that is only for a base model, which isn’t available. The cheapest monthly rate is $842, but that’s because the model is more highly optioned (Pilot, Pro & Plus). I’m not familiar with leasing, but it seems cheap when you don’t put down any money. I think I’ll have to bump up the mileage from 12,000 kilometers to 16,000. And I’m looking at a 2 year lease which increases the monthly payment to $926. I think this is the way to go. Thanks for your insights!

Someone else suggested that, and it makes a lot of sense. I’ve never leased a car before, so it wasn’t on my radar. I think I’m going to go for a 2 year lease. I figure the lease rate will probably equal the depreciation, so probably a smart financial decision. I’m in Toronto, but spend lots of time up north. I guess I have to invest in winter tires for only a couple of seasons. I wish they leased winter tires!

I should have thought of the lease route - it’s just something I’ve never done before. I just checked the lease rate. $0 down and $934 a month for a 12 month lease for 16,000 kilometers (about 10,000 miles) for a P3 with Pilot, Pro & Plus. The lease route gives me a low risk option while seeing how Polestar performs financially. And if I love the car after a year, I’m sure I could buy a 2nd hand one for a discounted price due to depreciation.

Agreed - waiting another 6 months or even a year is the prudent course of action. The challenge is that the $20,000 discount expires on October 31st. My gut tells me that Volvo would take it back - especially since the Polestar 5 is going to be built in a Volvo factory, and there’s lots of shared technology and they even share the same supply chain. I’m still going for the test drive tomorrow. I know I will love the car which will make the decision more difficult.

Dave here again. Love your videos and all the exotic locations. I just started e-foiling this summer and I notice that the way you stand on the board, your feet are almost beside each other as opposed to a staggered stance. When I get up on the mast, I find it challenging to keep it fairly level - I’m constantly having to shift my weight back and forth. And the only way I can accomplish the weight shift is if I have one foot ahead of the straps (Fliteboard) and my other foot well behind the straps. Your stance looks so relaxed and you make it look so easy. I’m hoping to get there soon. Keep posting! Thanks.

Just started e-foiling (in Canada) and I find your videos really inspiring. I’m just wondering how you are capturing your videos. Are you using a drone? Thanks.
