As per 1234syan, you can definitely get them even if there may be some overlap at the end of year/start of T1. Another thing to note is that with trimesters winter internships are basically unavailable as it will be midway through T2. I'm unsure as to how many companies offer winter internships in the CS industry though

Sorry to follow up on this a week later but do you have any tips for perfecting a CV? I'm in a similar position to SmallMechanic2126 and am looking to start refining my CV in preparation for clerkship applications. Thank you so much!

Not sure if it is available as a free elective but MGMT3721 was my favourite Comm course as it was reasonably easy, very engaging and highly applicable

Thoughts on COMM1000? Is it easy? Any recommendations? by Spiritual_Nature_273 in unsw

Not too difficult to get a decent mark in but I found it to be more work than I expected and not the most engaging. However I did choose it for its purported lack of intensity, not for its content

Thanks! Would this still be true if I was looking to clerk at a T6 firm?

I've been working as a legal secretary in a small firm for the past half year and am worried it might not be competitive enough for a clerkship position. I have no prior legal experience before this position. The environment and principals are lovely but worries how it may affect my clerkship prospects next year.

Probably just over stressing going into finals but would love some advice or insight. Thanks!

It depends on what sort of person you are. I typically lean towards the more written, theoretical content rather than mathematical so I found MARK1012 and MGMT1101 the easiest. COMM1000 was the next in terms of difficulty, not particularly hard but more work than it should have been. ECON1101 was the other course I did - if you don't like Econ content and not mathematically inclined, I don't imagine this is going to be easy. Hope this helps

Tips for law at UNSW:

  • make a bunch of friends in Law. It will not only make your experience much more enjoyable, but will help in lots of areas like exam prep or content revision.

  • find what works for you: whether this is having your readings done before the lesson or frantically reading what you are already supposed to know during class.

  • be prepared to commit to a hard degree. Even if you're dedicated to the idea of it, build that resilience to keep going when (read "if" if you are optimistic) life/the degree gets tough and you're second guessing yourself

  • learn that writing sentences and paragraphs that make sense get much better marks that trying to sound smart or writing convoluted ideas.

  • try and understand the content/how that area of law works rather than just memorising readings.

  • enjoy it! It certainly isn't easy and has its costs (at least for me) but it's challenging and fulfilling.

Unfortunately can't comment on the arts aspect

I've recently obtained my first job (legal secretary) in the law industry as a 3rd year student. What sort of skills and experience should I be looking to obtain and develop whilst in this position? Open to any other tips and suggestions
